BDP-1 acting up - corrupted HDD and Flash card
« on: 12 Jan 2016, 11:33 pm »
Hi, today, I turn on my BDP-1 and could not access it's music folders for update new music. Found that both the WD My Passport 2TB HDD and HP 32GB Flash card were corrupted. Had to reformat them. Still restoring files there.

The BDP-1 without drives shows the following errors on the system log:

[ 39.493400] FAT-fs (sda2): utf8 is not a recommended IO charset for FAT filesystems, filesystem will be case sensitive!
[ 39.534137] FAT-fs (sda2): Volume was not properly unmounted. Some data may be corrupt. Please run fsck.

On the Samba log:

If I click on the Network neighborhood on the Bryston-bdp-1 I get prompted for password but "bryston"does not work.

Incidentally , this happened after enabling the beta Roon RAAT service and using the BDP-1 as a Roon endpoint.

Regards.

I've owned my BDP-1 since it was released and have trashed 4, 500GB Intel SSDs (1 per year). Mine is part of a complete Theta Digital/Aerial Acoustics HT and I love the sound quality. However, every time I want to listen music it's a hassle. In my opinion, the MPoD interface is clumsy and not reliable, NAS connections are flaky at best (tried this after trashing the first 2 SSDs) and even as a real GEEK, it's not what I want to be when it's time to relax and listen to music.

I hope I'm in the minority but everything else works flawlessly in my system. I realize this is a frustrated user post but the last SSD just crashed this week when I was really in the mood for some nice music listening. There are just so many things that don't consistently work and I'm way too often reverting to my Theta Digital Compli Blu transport instead of enjoying the ease of a beautiful sounding digital player.

James: you provide great support and we can take the details off-line.

I commented before that if you use downloads or other ripped files. It is possible to import a virus or corrupt file that targets the drive. One album I can think of Seven Ways by Paul Van Dyk may have the Sony Root kit. There were at least 50 other known albums that had this. I'm not saying for sure this is the cause but a possibility.

On my old computer a nasty virus did just that and the drive stopped working. Another computer the sound quit, my friend who is computer tech determined the problem was software and not hardware, but could not locate the problem.

Transferred music is not without risk. :smoke:

As always, James was very responsive and arranged for Gary to help me with all my issues. Gary was able to update my BDP-1 to the latest firmware and resolve my NAS issues. Everything appears to be working perfect at this time.

Thanks for the great support Gary and James!!
