Resolution Audio Opus 21 CD Player with the Great Northern Sound Statement modifications performed.
Note: Great Northern Sound performed two levels of modifications on these players. Reference and Statement - The Statement mods was the less expensive of the two but contained most of the increased audio quality of the reference  *not all out like the Reference mods*

The nicest option with this player is full remote volume control that functions in the *Analog* domain. Thus no throwing bits out to lower the volume. I used this player directly to the power amp with no loss of sound quality.

This player sounds very good and I have not had any trouble with it at all. I'm only having an itch to upgrade because I'd like to try a tube based player.

This unit is in very good condition without any visible scratches. I have the manufacture wooden crate and all packing materials for safe shipping.

The only issue at all with this player is the "open drawer" button is kind of touchy. Sometimes when pressed it see's a "double press" so the drawer starts to open but stops. It did this ever since I first got it and I did not consider it an issue. As long as you press and hold the button for a second or two it works fine.

Not much else to say other than again the player is in great shape and sounds very good. Manufacture info below.

(Apologies I forgot to take a picture of the Remote Control) (Manual is printed copy)

The Opus 21 CD Player: The CD 21 has won many awards including Hi FI Choice’s Editor’s Choice, 5 Stars from What Hi FI and the Golden Ear Award from TAS. I can tell you from personal experience it out performs the Ayre CX-7e and Naim CDX2 and compares to the performance of the Wadia 861! It is also worth mentioning the CD 21 has a coaxial digital input which can be used to connect sources such as an iPod or Satellite Radio to the it’s Burr Brown 1704 DACs! It uses the same 4 Burr Brown 1704 multi bit DACs as the Naim CD555, Meridian 808 and Wadia 861 Reference CD Players.

The Opus 21 CD Player is the culmination of 10 years of digital audio development. It couples our refined multi-bit DAC design with an TEAC-bus drive that enables ideal low-jitter design and reads all discs, including CD-R/W, SACD-hybrid, and copy-protected discs, with ease. By moving the power supply and display to a second chassis, the critical audio circuitry is free of interference, bringing out more detail than ever. Three-dimensional circuit construction, while more costly, dramatically reduces signal path for unparalleled precision.

We use the finest multi-bit DACs available, as we have yet to find a superior alternative DAC architecture. Our custom DSP-based digital filter uses synchronous upsampling, as we have found that asynchronous designs create audible artifacts. By implementing volume-control in the analog domain, full performance of the converters is maintained independent of listening level.

• 4 BurrBrown PCM1704 24-bit converters • 16x digital filter upsamples to 705 kHz/24-bit • analog-domain volume control • balanced and single-ended outputs • digital input operates up to 96 kHz/24-bit enhancing two-channel home theater

Question about the drawer issue. How does it open when using the remote?

I ask because I have an Opus 21 and also have issues with the drawer. My solution is to leave a cd in the unit. With a cd in the drawer I have no problem at all.

That actually sounds the same as mine.  It often doesn't seem to occur if it has a CD in it.  I think I've had mine a about four years and it hasn't worsened.  I've never really thought of it as much of an issue as my old high end Sony player did exactly the same thing.

Does your remote have open/close button?  I didn't think mine had it.  I'll check.

I have two remotes for mine as I have the XS module which provides phono input as well as additional analog input, AM/FM tuner, 2 optical inputs, USB input and 2 coaxial inputs. The XS also offers a fixed as well as variable outputs. For some reason the remote for that unit has full cd control including opening and closing the drawer. The remote for the cd player doesn't have that button  Kind of a shame as the drawer functions perfectly with the remote.

I owned the Resolution Audio CD-50 for years before getting the Opus 21. RA makes some fantastic digital equipment. Good luck with your sale.
