Open Baffle speakers
« on: 29 Dec 2015, 07:56 pm »
Anyone here using any of the OB designs of Emerald Physics or Spatial Audio with their Odyssey equipment? I plan to purchase a set of new(or used) floor standers this coming spring and since I have heard the EP's and Spatial's at Axpona the past couple of years I can't seem to get them off of my mind as a sound I really was impressed with.
Any comment?

I agree with your speaker choices, I've heard them both at recent shows and they are one of the few demos that had spectacular soundstaging in Hotel rooms. I just visited the EP shop in Broomfield, CO and met Mark Schifter, brilliant and a hard worker. The finish choices are wider from EP and they imaged at a higher apparent level which I preferred to the lower position of the Spatials I heard. I've always heard the EPs with an EP amp, so I bet that any Odyssey amp will sound as good or better, especially controlling the OB woofers and making the compression driver sound smooth. Voices on a Odyssey/EP system should be spooky real.

Would like to pick this topic back up, am going to Axpona with the intention of purchasing an open baffle speaker system. I have a Khartago amp and Candela pre.

AC member schw06 has Spatial M3 Turbo S with Odyssey amps.  He's very happy!

I can't comment specifically on the pairing of Spatials with Odyssey gear, but as an M4 owner I can't imagine you'd be anything but pleased. They've sung with pretty much anything I've thrown out them...low powered (8 watt Minimax integrated), mid powered (Curcio-modded ST 70 with tube pre, hybrid Blue Circle DAR integrated), high powered (several class D amps). I liked my base model M4s so much that I jumped up to the Turbo S model, which I should get in the next week or so.

If Klaus' stuff is as good as advertised (no reason to think it isn't), I'm sure you'll be delighted.  I'm guessing your set up will sound most like my DAR, in which case I think you'll be thrilled.

I have a pair of EP KC II Pros in house burning in on a NuPrime duo of DAC-9/STA-9, soon I'll change over to a Comet Plus/Kismet monos. Even being driven by the very affordable NuPrime pair, under $1,600 total, the KC II Pros are kicking butt, big dynamic swings, great quickness in the bass on plucked bass or drum kit- very real sounding, wide and deep soundstage, and vocals nicely focused. My wife doesn't like exposed drivers, but the KC IIs are the best looking, IMO, of the EP line and their look is OK for her. The Pro version has the upgraded compression driver, and a bass extension network, they are detailed without being edgy, and seem easy to place for a big soundstage. Give Mark or Walter a call to see where they are exhibiting this year.
