Lucked out on a bottle of liquid gold, Rye whiskey of the year. :singing:

Stuff's been flying off the shelves.

Being a novice, I'm not sure whether to drink it straight or mix with ginger ale. Planning my 4 day electronic music fest' for the holidays.

I would do straight up or on the rocks. If you want whiskey mixed with something buy the cheaper stuff.

I received a nice bottle of Crown Royal whiskey....I'll save it for when the weather gets really cold and pour myself a shot straight up.  :green:

Drink it straight up. No ice, maybe a dash of water.  :thumb:

That's been my choice of whiskey for years, drink that straight or on ice - no mixing with this one  :nono:

You use "house" or "club" booze when you mix it with pop or juice ... actual good booze is straight up, on ice or with a bit of water only.

As a Canadian (with plenty of options at the liquor store when it comes to Rye Whisky) I'm always surprised as to how popular Crown Royal is with American rye drinkers. It's good booze, but not as popular here as in America.

When we go for a decent standard-priced Rye (same price as the rotgut 3-year olds, like Canadian Club), it's more likely to be Wiser's Deluxe for "regular" good rye, and then usually the Wiser's 18-year old premium whisky for special occasions. Wiser's makes a few other premium whiskies, and of course there are numerous small distillery options, just like you have many Bourbon choices in the liquor stores down there.

Deluxe is a blend of five to nine year aged Canadian whiskies. It's the #1 sales leader in Canada.

You can get Wiser's in the 'States, although maybe not every state. Try it sometime.

I'm a scotch drinker myself, but I've also been stuck on Blanton's bourbon this year.

Be sure to get yourself one of the many ice ball molds. The smaller surface area lets the ice melt slower so your whiskey gets less diluted.

Generally straight up is the way to partake of the good stuff.  Some add a few drops of water.

However, this time of year you might use it to get a cup of eggnog up on its feet.

I've always used rum in my eggnog, but this year I tried brandy. Seems to match the eggnog nicely.

I've tried straight up, but for some reason, I like a little cooler temperature. I tried whisky stones and had no luck whatsoever with them. Would there be anything wrong with storing whisky in the fridge?

Rum and/or brandy are traditional.  Bourbon and rye have their fans.

Chilled whisky?  never tried it.  Would that reduce the aromatics?  Try it and let us know.

Okay, started my 4 day Electronic Music Fest' and cracked open the Crown Royal - Rye of the Year.

Sorry, it's a no go, so went with plan B. Mixed it with Mango Tangerine fruit juice. Tastes pretty good. Think I'll call it the Man-Tan rye cocktail. Have other fruit juice mixes to try as I progress through the bottle.

I enjoy both Rye & Bourbon Whiskeys.  Try mixing a double shot of Rye with one shot of branch water, or make your self a Bourye.  One shot Bourbon, one shot Rye, one shot water.  If you like to drink your spirits neet you can skip the water.  I used to drink these straight, but I read blending the proof content down to around 60-70 proof range brings out the flavor.  Tried it, and I actually find I like the taste better.  It definitely works for me.
