MEMO: To All Bryston Customers
SUBJECT: Bryston 14B SST2 Review - Australia

December 2015

Hi Folks,

Please see link below to a review on our Bryston 14B SST2 power amplifier from “down under.”

Favourite Quote:

CONCLUSION:

High-end, powerful amplifiers are addictive and seductive in the way that they allow you to listen to almost anything, at almost any volume and it just sounds incredible. So often during my time with the Bryston 14BSST² I wanted to call up an audio buddy and blurt out a “wow, you should hear this!”

It made me stop and actually listen to the music with amazement, because it just sounded so right, so dynamic and life-like. Low powered amps by comparison are boring and lifeless and they don’t captivate the attention and imagination in the same manner.

Well, except for this somewhat questionable comment - "Selling locally for $11,699 puts the amplifier into a price category that some may feel is over the top, but of course those individuals have never picked one up. It weighs over 41Kg and that sort of mass is not exactly cheap to manufacture."

Amplifier weight is not something I would use to justify cost or ability of an amplifier.  Case in point, the Emotiva XPR-2 at less than 20% of the cost and a net weight of over 45kg, or the USA-made ATI 6002 at 48% of the cost with a weight of 39kg.

I don't think either of those amplifiers are quite up to the sound quality or reliability of the Bryston, and although there are many differentiating performance factors between amplifiers including design and parts quality, weight is not one of them.

I agree with Mr. Gusew; at least that's been my experience with my 14BST.
