Bryston 1B
« on: 11 Dec 2015, 05:36 pm »
I posted this in my introduction posting, maybe should've posted here?

I'm currently running a bryston 3b with a bryston bp4(with balanced audio)
I'm wondering if its an upgrade to get a bryston 1B pre amp.
Currently engaging in vinyl and I want to get past using a phono pre amp.
The BP4 is at least 10yrs newer that the !B, seems like the one I'm looking at is in nice condition.
Any thoughts and advice you can share would be greatly appreciated.
cheers

About the only reason I can see to try the 1B as a preference for phono would be that it does have the very low bass filter in place.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think that this would be protective towards your speakers for any low frequency that a bad LP or such could cause.

But, that filter may be there for other reasons.

The other convenience would be the AC outlets on the back. Having two switched outlets could power your amp and TT to have a very nice and compact set up, one power switch on the 1B to fire up the whole system.

I have a 1B, and its been phenomenally reliable over many, many years.  I have a TT, but it is nothing high end, an old B&O RX something.
