I'm getting old. I thought you asked me to clarify our policy towards modded speakers, in particularly our speakers modded by Danny.

Hey there Brian,

I think you've already made your point LOUD AND CLEAR TO EVERYONE a while back about your views on servicing speakers that have been modified. Now your statements are really starting to look like actual "scare tactics", which I'm sure is not your actual intention to convey to your customer base or other Audiocircle members for that matter who may read your posts.

In all actuality I do wonder if Danny might be willing to completely cover the existing warranty of any VMPS speakers that he may mod.

Of course I can't ask him those sort of questions on the thread (as I unfortunately found out in my last thread when I asked for him to chime in to explain something)

Hi Robert

It does seem that some forum rules were violated in the "thread in question".

One of the great things about this board is that it brings designers and customers together to have discussions. This is one of the things that sets this board apart from other...this is also what seems to raise the quality of discussion too.

But, with any good...does come the potential for bad

Brian and Danny do have a history, and it's unfortunate that these two individuals don't have the ability to play nice.

I certainly wish both of them well...but it sure would have been nice to just read what AC members had to say about the two speakers. Your right that there seemed to be some good discussion left in the thread from those who were there. Heck, I think we even understood that the set-up conditions may not have been ideal...same with seating position. But it was still interesting to get feed-back from individuals who you may share many preferences with.

While I think we could all agree that the meeting might not have been set up the best for comparison...it did seem like the people who attended had a good time in a casual listening comparison and tho it was flawed...there were some differences noted. BIG DEAL! It sounded like fun to me

Robert, I would agree...it is a shame.

...and it looks like it's going to continue to be one

An attempt to tie up some loose ends…after much reflection…

What have we learned here?

Bridge the gap between the Improvement Maker with his New Product (no disrespect is intended here) and the rest of the customer base plus the industry by displaying not only the data but a well-reasoned methodology of subjective proof (which, gee, I think is the real focus here) - but use a third party that the industry (first) and the customer (second) would agree resembles a neutral reference for judgment. This is all Very Tough to do, yes, but when you have a Hatfield versus a McCoy and the town seems squarely divided ‘twixt the 2, then a scary dude (– sorry – couldn’t resist) situation develops. In this situation, it is warranted! Obviously, the Hatfields and the McCoys cannot be trusted on word alone (again, no stepping on toes here).

Eric is easily qualified to carry out such monitoring. Problem is, he doesn’t have the head-nod from at least one manufacturer. Bam! More fodder for AudioCircle (and wherever)!

Hmmm....

After thinking about all the buzz these threads and the originals have generated I'm starting to think that this is all a ploy. That they are really partners following the thought that "there is no such thing as bad publicity".

PS - I hope this thread doesn't get locked. Also, I'm happy that Danny Richie has chosen to take the high road and not join in the "Fun". I'd let the results of the blind test speak for itself. It's also good to hear that Brian has some changes or improvements to the 626 design. Does this set the stage for a "rematch"?
