sony ps-x60 cartridge suggestions?
« on: 8 Dec 2015, 03:04 am »
Hello all,

I'm in the market for a new cartridge for my vintage Sony deck.
The table is stock but I don't know if the cartridge is original.  It doesn't appear to have any markings.

I'm considering replacing the cart because the table is relatively new to me and I don't know it's history.  Also I'm having some tracking problems so I want to rule out the cart.

My priorities are reliability, tracking, and a cart that will setup easily (I'm new to this).  Ultimately i want to enjoy some less than perfect, used records and hopefully minimize some surface noise in the process.  My preamp will handle mm or mc.   I'd like to keep the cost under 150.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
That's a 20g arm and you'll get best results with a cart of moderate compliance.  For great bass with good detail this Nagaoka will work nicely:

Other popular choices:

All of these are available pre mounted on a headshell which is lighter than stock.  It helps.  I like the ATs which I think are more neutral once broken in. The Nagaoka is more mellow.
