JVC RX-10 Sub help!?
« on: 19 Oct 2004, 03:54 am »
Hello,

I just brought home a sub today and I can only get this thing to work on the DVR/DVD setting.  It wont come on for the life of it on the best sounding input (dvd multi).  Anyone using a sub with their JVC on this setting?  How did you get it to work!??

I am coming in this thing via: analog (E-MU 1212M soundcard).

Thanks!

Sean

Well, I'm not so sure that the multi mode sounds any different from the dvd mode.  In short, the dvd multi mode only works if you have a subwoofer input from the source.  I've got a 1212m too, so I just use the dvd mode.  I suppose there are a couple ways around this but I haven't tried any of them.  All of them bypass the receiver's crossover, which I find to be a great tool, so I don't know if you want to use them.

One is to use the speaker level input on the subwoofer.  That would work.

The other is to split a signal from the sound card with a splitter of some type and run that to the sub.

The third, I'm not sure would work at all but seems to be the best option for functionality to me, if it does work, and that's to split the signal at the soundcard and run one set to the regular inputs and the other to a summing adaptor and then plugging that into the subwoofer input.  But that may be anathema to some.

OOheadSoo,

Thank you for the response.  I was actually about to sign on here and clear out my inquery completely.  I just realized that it is meant for multi-channel only *duh*.

For the first week I could tell NO difference between dvd multi and dvr/dvd  - but now (about three weeks later?) there is what I would call a significant difference between the two.

I like your ideas about running the cable out from the Sound-card, the thought had crossed my mind.  Right now I am experimenting with ways to get the DVR/DVD input more to my liking.  Im trying out "midnight" mode, and it seems to be working very well, almost on par with the multi out.  Of course, Im about as tired as you can possibly get so I will have to do more testing after a good (I hope) nights sleep.

Thank you for the response bud!

Let me know how it goes!  If it works well for you, I may give it a shot :)
