Teen's first TT
« on: 25 Nov 2015, 04:26 pm »
My 13 year daughter has requested her own TT.  She does come down to daddy's man cave and listen some times but she is on Spotify via a tablet in her room most of the time.  She knows how to clean records on my RCMs but she wants something that will have an auto-lift.  She listens to LPs by Lorde, Lana del Ray, Imagine Dragons, Adele etc.

I am thinking of http://www.turntablelab.com/products/denon-dp-300f-turntable-ortofon-2m-red-upgrade.  15%off for black Friday and it's 340 shipped.  Built in phono-pre, auto cue and lift,  upgraded pickup, cork mat and a carbon fiber brush -- what other combo can beat this for a 13 year old?  I am not looking for the best sound quality.  I am looking for ease of use and, more importantly, fail-proofness for the absent minded teens.  Then sound quality.  She is smart and great but I don't trust her with any of my "audiophile" TTs.

Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated. :thumb:

The 300f is a great choice for your needs, especially with the 2M cartridge upgrade and that great price.
Hard to do better!

Another option is something from U Turn Audio:

The U Turn tables are manual with no semi automatic auto lift but you can buy a separate tonearm lifter, if required:
