We love a romantic, candlelit dinner as much as the next girl,
but a recent study has uncovered that this lack of visibility may lead us
to make unhealthy food choices.

Recently, the Cornell Food and Brand Lab partnered with a team of scientists from the University of South Florida
to see what, if any, effects lighting had on how we eat.
Looking at how 160 customers ordered in four casual chain restaurant locations they found that 16-24 per cent
of diners were more likely to order healthy food if the restaurant was well-lit.

“Half of those diners, who were seated in brighter rooms,
were more likely to choose healthier options (such as grilled/baked fish, vegetables or white meat)
over relatively unhealthy items (such as fried food or dessert).
Furthermore, sales records showed that those in dimly-lit rooms actually ordered 39 per cent more calories!”

To further test this theory, they then conducted lab studies on 700 college-aged students
and got the same results.

The reason: Alertness.

“Researchers conclude that the main reason that we make healthier choices in well-lit spaces
is because we feel more alert.”

To further test this theory,
researchers gave those dining in dimly-lit spaces coffee
and found that they ordered similar to their peers in the brightly-lit spaces.

But this doesn’t mean that you should crank up the lights.

Researchers also noticed that while those in darker spaces generally went for dishes
that were deemed less healthy,
they also tended to eat less, took their time with their meals
and claimed to enjoy the experience more.

I guess in a nutshell the pain comes from an irritated esophagus at the entrance of your upper stomach. It's not caused by stomach acid returning into the esophagus.

The pain I had was in my stomach,
in the lower part - bottom part of my stomach (Belly).
Not in the chest or higher.

For diabetics, be very leary of a new once a week shot to control your sugar level. Some doctors  and Dr. Phil is promoting this shot and is causing brain tumors, even cancerous. My buddy Rex has been taking it for 2-3 weeks now and his sugar levels are hanging around 200, not good.

Six months ago, I've stopped taking pills. (Methaformin - Glucophage)
More than a year ago, I have changed my eating habits.
(Everything with moderation - exception: sugar - pasta - bakeries)
My blood sugar level is now stable at 6.3 which is good.
Some doctors I've seen,
said that once you start taking pills you cannot stop,
well they are wrong...

To edit it and make it shorter would leave some good information behing.
By the way, it's not a very long reading, when it comes to your health !

If diabetic, leave the oatmeal off of the list. A bowl of oatmeal sent my sugar level up over 300. Blueberries is a much better choice. Oats turns to sugar when you consume it.

Doctors are brainwashed to only use drugs, well you know, it is all about the money. One doctor confessed that the only diet info he received in school was a total of 15 minutes. You do not have to take drugs like Guy and I are currently doing. For more results like this, go to dietdoctor.com.

I have not taken any drugs for the last 10 years, been on a LCHF diet with my diabetes.

One thing I must add.
I do not use those small sugar blood tester.
I go to the doctor every three months
and he take a blood sample from my arm
and gives me my blood sugar average
of the last three months, more accruate.
One time a doctor in Montreal took my blood sugar with a small machine only two hours
after lunch and I was at 6.5,
then before I got operated for an hernia,
I did not eat for more than 12 hours
and my blood sugar was around 12.0.
The doctor told me that it was normal because I was nervous just before the operation,
then the anesthesist told me that those reading don't mean much ? ? ? ?
Who to believe. ????

Diabetes drugs can be very dangerous. There is a website that shows lawsuits on the drugs. Is one of these yours?

Excellent thread, Guy.

I was once one those who viewed food as an enjoyable hobby rather than viewing it as a fuel source. As a result, my weight exploded to unsightly levels and my health suffered. Faced with a lifetime full of prescription drug usage I needed to make a change. So I did.

Congratulation Pneumonic.
Was it difficult to make the change ?
May I ask how much weight you've lost ?
As far as I can remember, I never liked to take drugs, read medications.
Even Asperine and the same.
I've lost 9Kg from 69Kg down to 60Kg and I am very stable varying by only one kilo.

Something like that never happened to me,
because I gave it away before something like that would happen to me.
Each time I was using that high pressure contraption,
it scared the hell out of me...

Thanks, Guy. And good for you also.

I spent the first few decades of my life with a not so good eating lifestyle. During this time I was very active and busy with sports and was able to keep things pretty well in check. When I blew out my ACL, I stopped playing most sports and things changed. My eating lifestyle continued however and, when combined with my much more sedentary lifestyle, I started packing on the #'s. About 50#'s too much at my worst.

I have lost ~ 40#'s since I finally woke up and decided a change was needed in order for me not to become reliant on meds to extend my lifespan. I learned how to balance my macros and became one with vegetables. My best friends over this time has been a few of these:

Pneumonic, thanks for the explanations.
I am working on convincing my Vietnamese wife to grow some of the vegetable we eat daily,
we have room for that, however, my wife prefer growing flowers.
I also want to do my own compost, because I've noticed that we throw out lots of stuff
that could be transformed into compost.
