1812 overture
« on: 7 Nov 2015, 04:05 pm »
Greetings everyone!

It's been awhile since I posted something so what the heck! Is anyone familiar with Telarcs version of the 1812 overture? There are two versions, one with a choir (I have both). Just wanting to hear your impression on how your VSA speakers handle those cannon shots. My VR-5 Anniversary MKII's have no issues, except raddle my windows! Impressions?

I didn't know there were two versions.  Do they have different issue numbers, and if so, what are they?  Any difference in the record jackets?

Thunder...

Not able to access my CDs at this time. If you go onto E-bay, both versions are for sale. Just type: Telarc 1812 SACD overture and they will come up.

Hi Henry!  Also consider Copeland's Fanfare for the Common Man...

Oh.  I thought you were referring to LPs.   :duh:

Jack,

Yes, got the Copland, those kettle drums are amazing!! It's to bad that Telarc is no longer making SACD/CD's, they are probably the best recordings out there!

Be advised; the earliest pressing of this disc, that has a DIDZ code, is clipped resulting in distortion. It was pulled, and the unclipped version code is DIDX.

There is a nice discussion on the Hoffman site about this AND the vinyl version.

Are you referring to Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition?
