Can I use LMS with PS Audio DS DAC + Bridge
« on: 1 Nov 2015, 07:57 pm »
Been using a Modwright Transporter for about 5 years to stream from an iMac with attached 2 TB HD.  The software is Logitech Media Server (LMS) on the iMac with Squeezepad on an iPad to control the Transporter.  Cat 5 cable connects the iMac to the router in one room and from the router to the Transporter in the music room.  Next week I'll have a PS Audio DS DAC with the bridge.  Can I continue to use LMS with the Bridge or will I need to install something like JRiver?  I just want to keep it simple and JRiver seems complex (based on my reading) although I might grow to appreciate some of it's features.

I found this topic
http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=133790.msg1419463#msg1419463

and don't completely understand everything said in there.  Specifically "there is now a client app/player called Squeezelite that will also run on Linux in lieu of needing a hardware based wireless Logitech player."  Does this mean LMS only works with a hardware Logitech player, but no worries because Squeezelite will work, and maybe with the Bridge?

Just did a search and found that "Squeezelite is a small headless squeezebox emulator for linux" so since I don't have a linux server guess I won't be using it.  Still wondering if LMS will work with the Bridge.

Hi Mario,

I have the plugin and it is working very nicely.  I'm Jeff on the PS Audio forum where we were discussing this.

Hi Jeff!

Nice to meet you here.. lol.

Glad to hear that the plugin is working nicely. May I ask where is your LMS running, what plattform?
With the LMS on my Synology DS212+ the plugin doesn't want to work. Not matching architecture I guess. I must read the complete thread, maybe there is a trick to fix it.

My LMS is running on an iMac.  External HD dedicated to music files attached with Firewire.  I use dBpoweramp to rip CDs with this external CD / DVD burner attached with Firewire:

The iMac connected to router with Cat5 and a long Cat5 cable goes from the router to the PS Audio DS DAC with installed Bridge I in the music room.  Use Squeezepad on an iPad as a controller.  I ordered the Bridge II couple days ago, hope with it installed the network continues to work smoothly.  Prior to getting the LMS plugin working, I was using the trial version of JRiver on the iMac and JRemote on the iPad.  There are 3 days left on the JRiver trial.  For my purposes currently I don't think I need JRiver, so might not spend the $50 to keep it.

My router is actually an Apple Time Capsule which is a combined router and backup device.  It backs up everything on the iMac as well as the external music HD.

In the future I may get a Synology NAS and use MinimServer installed on it.
