An AK'er salutes you from Philadelphia!

Hello Everyone,

The name's Brian (isRelative on AK) and I just thought I'd introduce myself here on AC.  I've been an audiophile for about 3 years now and I think it's safe to say I'm a bit of an addict.  My curiosity for what other sounds are out there is pretty insatiable, which is probably why I've gone through so much gear in so little time.  I also think it's because I'm relatively young and my life situation changes so much I'm constantly in need of tweaking my system (lots of moves).

I'm currently rocking a Thorens TD-125 mkII with an SME 3009 II tonearm.  I've got an Ortofon 2M Black mounted on it running into a NAD PP2 phono preamp.  I have a Grant Fidelity RITA-880 tube integrated amplifier and unfortunately I just sold my ADS L-810 speakers so I'm currently on the lookout for another pair of speakers.

At this point in time, everything that I own is up on the trading block.  I recently moved into a small-ish apartment with bouncy wooden floors so ideally I'd like to have a non-suspended deck turntable, a smaller tube integrated (the RITA is the size of a microwave and weighs 115 lbs.), and a small/medium sized pair of bookshelf speakers.

I enjoy classic rock, jazz, indie rock, new wave, and hip hop/rap in that order.  I particularly enjoy Lou Reed, Dire Straits, Elvis Costello, David Bowie, Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, Cannonball Adderly, Squeeze, Snoop Dogg, NWA, Death Cab for Cutie, Foals, Explosions in the Sky, Nirvana, and REM.

Hope we can be friends!

Best,
Brian

Thanks!  Before I became an audiophile, I didn't really appreciate other genres of music as much as I do now.  Same thing happened once I started to dance; I used to think ballet was incredibly boring but now I find it mesmerizing and can respect the art/technique so much more.

Great song :)

Welcome aboard!

A suspended deck turntable and bouncy wooden floors don't mate very well haha.  I'm willing to try my luck on a non-suspended deck :P

Hi Brian and welcome. Before you do that, consider if you can put up a wall mount shelf. The Thorens is a fine table, even if it is a bit long in the tooth. It's certainly understandable if you want to look for something different, but even a non-suspended will need to have some protection from bouncy floors.

BTW I'm in Camden County across the river!

Greetings & Welcome Brian.  :thumb:  Actually I was wondering if by chance you hadn't posted a pic of your microwave by mistake at 1st glance.  :D
