Lounge Audio LCR MkIII phono stage – $300

Thought I'd give a shout out for this little gem, in the event it's not been mentioned in these parts:

Fabulous phono pre, both sonically and from a build quality standpoint...they could easily charge double or triple for it and I wouldn't bat an eye. Really impressive soundstage & realistic timbres. I have the MM-only model, but they now have a step up unit in a matching chassis, in case that's a consideration.

To be clear I have no relationship or financial interest in Lounge Audio...I'm just a fan of a good deal.

There was a guy in the Vinyl Circle who, regarding this device, actually said he wished they'd sell something for $1000, because, you know, it would be better.

Intrigued by the new product, still going back and forth between MM and MC  and this thing is in competition with a couple of DIY transformer based stepups.

^ I got the opportunity to review this phono stage, and ended up buying it. It has now replaced my Musical Paradise MP-P1. I'm using it with a Charisma MC-1 and a vintage SUT (Altec 4722). *More recently Lounge sent me the new 'Copla' head amp to review, it's excellent too (also $300).

Can't say enough good things about Lounge. I'm a tube guy, but I've always felt SS in a phono (or at least a hybrid in MC) is preferable for low noise - provided it's musical and sounds great. I've reviewed a bunch of different phono preamps on my site, and tried many others over the years. These Lounge preamps are remarkable at their price, especially for a product that's handmade in California.
