How many of you "down rez" DSD to your PCM-only dac via s/w program like JRiver?

The more I read about some of the very nice dacs out there, the more I have started to think about de-emphasizing DSD-capable dacs and just having JRiver convert DSD files to PCM.

How many of you already do this and how do you like it?

I have very little DSD that I like to listen to, but wanted to have the next DAC, like the current, play anything. Ted warned me that a good DSD dac and a good PCM dac may be two separate dacs from two different companies these days. So now I am considering PCM-only dacs and letting JRiver work its magic.

I have been using Foobar2000 with the DFF plug-in for DSD to PCM conversion at 24bit/176.4KHz rate with excellent results.

That is a simple downsample from the original DSD rate.

I receently bought a dac and decided to forgo dsd capability.  I don't own any dsd files and the overwhelming majority of my library is 44.1/16.  I buy hirez when its something I consider a must have (George Duke's - Dream Weaver or Diana Krall's Wallflower).  I have more musioc than I can listen to so a big push for dsd is not in the cards for me.  If I was starting my audio journey, my pertspective would likely be different.  BTW,   I just bought a Gunnir Multibit and my pliminary experiences (it's not burned in yet) are very promising.  I use JRiver 20 so I know where you're coming from.

You have it backwards;  DSD is the 'down-rez'  format.

Probably "cross conversion" would be more accurate than up or down rez.  I use Audirvana plus to convert DSD to PCM and usually the sound is notably smoother and denser than the straight PCM versions.

It is a format conversion.

Those using JRiver might experiment with the filtering as JRiver's default is rather conservative at 24 kHz/ 48 db/octave

You can set this in Tools → Options → Audio → Advanced → Configure Input Plug-in → DSD Input Plug-in

I tried to do this with jriver but I couldn't get it to work.  I must have something set incorrectly.
