New Member...out of the closet

My name is Frank.  Been registered here for a while but this is my first post.  Would like to get into some of the conversations so here is my first post.

Current system:
Rotel RC-1082 preamp
Rotel RCD-1072 CD
Rotel RB-1090 power Amp
Aerial Acoustics model 6 speakers
NAD D1090 DAC
Schitt Vali headphone amp
Beyerdynamic Tesla T1 headphones

I cycle thru equipment frequently and am currently looking for a new tube Preamp.  Sold my Rogue Metis Magnum and purchased the RC-1082.  Its nice having a matching "stack" but I miss the 6sn7 tube sound.  Current possible candidates, Cary SLP-05, which is a little to rich for my blood or a Dehavilland Ultraverve.  Both quality pre-owned of course.

Regards, Frank

Welcome.

Those Aerial Acoustics look pretty sweet.

Years ago, coming out of a almost non audio funk, I bought a Rotel 2.1 receiver.  It wasn't particularly cheap but sounded like it and was built like it.  The power button came off after a few years and it (thankfully) died shortly after the warrantee expired.  FM reception was poor, and it had a thick dark sound.  Used Harmon Kardon 2 channel and cheap Sony 6.1 channel receivers at 1/4th the price that I also owned at the time performed and sounded much better.  Maybe it was a lemon or maybe the product was a dud.  But there's too many other options for me to try mid-fi Rotel again.

I'd try posting an pre-amp question to the tube circle.  I agree, good sounding/quiet tube pre-amps aren't cheap (and either are 6sn7 tubes).  Another option would be trying a tubed DAC/pre-amp that would allow you to get into ripping your music.

Welcome Frank,

For a wonderful inexpensive preamp which utilizes 6SN7s (switchable to 12SN7s as well), check out Mapletree Audio:

https://hollowstate.netfirms.com/

One of the nice attributes of having Dr. Peppard build you one is that you can specify not only the number of inputs but also customize the gain for each individual input. Dr. Peppard can help you determine apprpriate gains for each input based on your source.

I have an older 2A/SE model which I love.

Thanks all.  Many interesting option brought up.  The Mapletree Audio units sound interesting from a price and tube rolling standpoint.  I have many NOS 12sn7s  along with those metal 12sc7s.  Hmmm, so many choices.
