My wife has some recordings on cassettes (10 tapes) which are not on CD. Looking for a way to get them onto CD.

That's when i was told cassette recordings only worked properly on the same machine they were recorded on. (This may only apply to better machines, as poorly quality machines couldn't differentiate.)
Found this on youtube which shows how to do this with cassette player, double ended stereo mini-jack, and laptop (using MS Sound Recorder or Audacity software). Think I might see if I can get ahold of a player and try this myself.
