DSpeaker Core 2.0
« on: 28 Sep 2015, 01:07 pm »
I know this has been discussed before, but the thread that I found mixed the older unit with the current unit.

I am inquiring specifically on the unit above.

I am adding 2 subs to my 2 channel system and will be incorporating them into the DSpeaker.

My connection will be RCA out of preamp into RCA of DSpeaker, XLR out from DSpeaker to mono blocs feeding woofers on speakers.

I will use a Y splitter from the RCA out on the DSpeaker to feed the tube mono blocs on tweeters / mids and my subs.

I have read to set up the Dpeaker in 2.0 mode and then allow for the device to calibrate to 120 hz.

Do I set my sub to 120 Hz since the DSpeaker will take over from there?

If I do not set up in 2.2 configuration, what will the effect be on the DSpeakers ability to control / affect the sub?

Thanks for the help.  I bought my DSpeaker months ago, but a hold up at the the speaker factory has kept my main floorstanders away from home since early May so the device has never been calibrated at all.

I use the DSpeaker on my subs only, so I am not sure about how you would use the 2.2 setting.  When using Dspeaker only on subs set the subs crossover dial as high as they will go and then run the equalize program.  As I understand it, if you want to use the DSpeaker on subs and main speakers, set the program to 2.0 -  then I imagine you would have to do some adjustment to the subs crossover to get it as good as you want and then run the equalize.  Most of this is covered in the manual, but can be a bit hard to find.  I have found that they are very responsive (at the factory, not the US REP) to emailed questions.

I use the XLR preouts from my preamp to the DSpeaker XLR inputs, so the DSpeaker gets the full range signal from my preamp.

I have my left and right subs crossed over at 35 Hz and adjusted for volume to blend with the main speakers.  I connect the line level inputs from the subs to one pair of L/R outputs on the DSpeaker.

I have Open Baffle speakers connected to a 2x4 digital crossover.  The 2 in from the digital crossover are connected to the second pair of L/R outputs on the DSpeaker.

The subs are fairly well integrated with the mains before I run room correction using the 2.0 full range setup.  The resulting sound is better blended main/sub pairing with the bass corrections done for my particular room.

I ran it for the 1st time today since my speakers arrived yesterday.  Very impressed with its performance.

I am going to reset and play around with the subs before running the equalization again.

Thanks!
