VTLs coming home today!
« on: 26 Sep 2015, 10:04 am »
It's Christmas for funboy today as my old VTL 300 deLuxes are coming home.
Some may recall I sold them in order to buy a Martin acoustic.  As luck would have it, the fellow I sold the VTLs to decided to change his system around and he sold the VTLs back to me.
They won't be leaving a second time as I won't get them back again.

We survived the trip - middle of Pennsyltucky to Boston and back in one day.  What an ordeal!
Now to unload the car and plug these monsters back in.

Congratulations, you got lucky. I had VTL 300 Deluxe amps for many years.  My Wife and I have always missed how the 300's looked. That warm glow of the exposed tubes is something special.  Enjoy!

Thank you, I got REAL lucky.  I asked for first dibs just in case he decided to go in a different direction and he is a nice guy so he thought of me.
They're just a perfect match for the Magnepan 3.7s in my house.  I am finally happy again with the sound.

That's exactly where that avatar photo came from - fun with a tripod.
Today I was able to stick the VTL 250s back upstairs where they belong with the 1.7s and everything worked out real well.
You just KNOW the first album I played was Apostrophe'!  Stinkfoot always makes my wife laugh.

Congrats.  Nothing satisfies as much as putting in a piece that just works.

My first (and VERY memorable) exposure to Maggie's was with a large set of VTL mono amps.   I was too noob to note what they were, but they were large and they sang beautifully with the panels in a large room.  Breathtaking.

Don't forget to sleep!

Sleep is just what I'm going to do.
Lynda and I did a 1200 mile round trip through 6 states in really heavy traffic with only stops for gas, coffee and dinner.
It seemed like the entire East Coast was out showing off how poorly they can drive.
I'm getting too old for this crap but I'm glad I did it.

Congrats Steve, many times I thought about you and your 3 dimensional VTLs. I can't believe you got them back.

Your's is a great story.  It's not often one gets to buy back something he loved.  And you have a use for it, all the better.  The only piece I've sold that I'd like back is a Sanders Magtech amp.  I have no use for it though, it's just a great amp.

Your a lucky guy, Steve. I biamped my IIIA's with the 300's on my bass and MB 125s on my mids/highs. The grip they had on those speakers was amazing for tube amps. Plus they heated my listening room! Congratulations on your prodigal speakers returning.

Always liked the VTL gear.  The only issue with those is when they need to be re-tubed.

The nice thing about those is that they will never go out of style.  Congrats, and good luck!

Maybe this is my reward for all of the health issues I had this year.  My departed stepfather always used to say, "Steve, if you want to get to heaven you have to go through hell and you're going to heaven"!
The only other thing that I've ever been able to buy back is my Gibson Lucille which was just great.
I'm hoping the buyer of my Gibson Firebird contacts me but I don't think that's going to happen as he seemed to like it (A LOT)!
Here's Lucy if you haven't seen the old girl.  This is easily the best electric guitar I've ever owned.
This is also a classic case of Thread Derailment!

P.S.
I'm sure there are hundreds of better amplifiers out there than those old VTLs but to me, they're just something really special.
I need to spend an entire day playing a bunch of old records when the wife is out and about.  She has some nerve coming home and cooking dinner!
