Today marked the end of my speaker upgrading and my audio sickness until Danny comes out with something better.  No, really, I think I'm done.  Although, I said that after my previous Gr Research N3 towers.  As far as boxed speakers go, the N3's were my all time favorite.  The JBL 530's were really good too.  When I read the thread that Danny started called (something new that sounds incredible) I had to hear an open baffle speaker.  I thought about purchasing some super V's but the footprint and lack of replacement drivers scared me off.
The wedgies as they are affectionately called seemed perfect.  Reasonable size, affordable (they still are not cheap!) but for a dream speaker and not ever having to buy new ones, it seemed reasonable.  I wish I could have back the fortune I have spent on other gear.  So, I saw that a fell audio circle member, Mr. Lundy had built a pair and was pretty close to me.  So I drove to Tulsa to hear his wedgies that sat on top of H-frame open baffles.
WOW!!!!!!! When I heard the open baffle bass, I had to have a pair.  It was nothing like I ever heard before.  Even better than my 100 pound rhythmic sandboxes.  The imaging and spaciousness of the sound from the top part was just like Danny had described it.  So I asked Mike if he could build a pair for me and he agreed.  I liked his H-frames but I wanted something that was more pleasing to the eye.  I saw Mike's veneer work on his N's and it was outstanding but I wanted a white speaker.  I also contacted Ron of these circles as well to build the crossovers.  Not that I didn't trust Mike with the Job, its just that Ron is my guy when it comes to crossovers.  His labor is reasonable, he does outstanding work, and he is one of the nicest guys you will ever talk too.
Mike has a full time job so he does the work when he is able to.  Throughout the build his communication was excellent.  He routinely sent me pics of the build and gave me updates on everything.  He even agreed to deliver them to me today.  Needless to say, I was very excited.
Mike pulled up in his van around noon and we brought everything in.  Now don't expect to deliver your speakers across the country, he is about 90 minutes away from me.  He is such a nice guy that he might personally deliver your speakers.  We unloaded everything which started with the amp boxes.  Next came the wedgies and finally the bottom sections.  Everything was fantastic.  The amp boxes, the speakers, the crossovers,etc.... just looked great.  I love how the crossovers are exposed and the red board looks great with the white cabinets.
We set it up but mike said we needed some Y adapters to split the signal to the bottoms and tops of the wedgies.  So he even took me to best buy to get the adapters.  After that everything was set up and we even brought out one of my sandboxes to use only for home theater.  Now the big reveal!!!!!
The sound was everything I hoped it would be.  The bass is just tight.  It actually takes some time to get used to.  No boominess.  Listened to some toadies, Vance Joy, Lorde, Cloud Cult, Frankie goes to Hollywood, 127  hour soundtrack, and everything was superb.  The only issue I had was the blinking green light on the rhythmik amp that means the amp was clipping.  Need to find more out about this.  I do like to listen very loud :)
In summary, Danny has designed a spectacular speaker.  There are many types of geniuses and in this field he is the best.  His designs are just better than anything out there.  I still don't get why big companies don't produce more open baffle speakers or subs.  They are without a doubt superior.  I guess it comes down to your space I guess.  My room is not ideal and the speakers will have to be pushed back against the wall when I am not enjoying music to its fullest.  They look a little awkward being so far out into the room.  If you can push them out and then back you will be golden.
If you ever need speakers built try to hire Mike.  He is a very bright guy who is also a skilled craftsman.  Painting my speakers with a satin finish was new to him but he pulled it off.  The speakers look great, he communicated very well, and he even delivered them.  BTW do I owe you gas money, I forgot about that :(.  Ron also builds perfect crossovers.
I just hope Danny can get more of the BG tweeters so more people can enjoy these.  I forgot to mention that Mike also tracked down a pair of the tweeters so we could continue the build.
Thanks again Danny, Mike, and Ron!!!!!!

Michael,

Glad you enjoy them! I had a lot of fun building them, Ok so maybe gluing the one wedgie cabinet up backwards wasn't much fun   :nono: but the rest was.

I have to agree with everything you have said about the extraordinary sound of these speakers and in such a small package for full range speakers. Danny hit a home run with these beauties.

By the way, that grin, it doesn't go away  :thumb:

Great to hear you  and Mike  got it all setup   8)
Mentioned in Mike's post last night that you must have been pretty excited/anxious knowing today was the day.

You do get used to having  the speakers out in the room, just takes a bit of time

Enjoy

Ben's company is called Subassemble. However, he does not have anymore Wedgie flat packs. I bought everything he had left, including spare parts. Since the tweeters are no longer available I don't know if he will be cutting anymore flat packs or not.

I have enough cabinet parts and tweeters to build three more pairs of Wedgies. After that the fate of these fantastic speakers is in limbo. Hopefully either the Neo3PDR tweeter will become available again or Danny is able to come up with an alternate tweeter that will work either as is or by modifying the current design.

At one time he had flatpacks for the N3's but I don't know what else he has worked up or what he is still cutting.
