Is there any consensus on where to keep the boxes from the equipment that we're always buying ?  Even with the exhaust fan, my attic has about a 100-degree range from summer to winter.  There's no de-humidifier in the (unfinished) basement, so I wonder how the higher humidity compares in deleterious effects with the greater temperature extremes.

Since most packing material is cardboard and styrofoam I would go for the attic, 100 degrees F should not pose a problem. Humidity from the basement may cause the carboard to "wilt".

Crawl space for me.  jlupine, I'd get a de-humidifier anyway.  You will be glad you did.

speaking as someone living in the tropics...
I've got cardboard boxes that I've stored for over 5 years in 90%+ humidity year round without any degradation of them at all. keep em dry and you will not have any problems in the attic or wherever...

I've placed mine in a square around me, fixed with tape and have placed a few large old blankets across the top.  I call it my 'hi-fi fort'.  ;)
