Which one do you have?
I'm currently using a N-30 with a N-50 on the way (for a second system in my living room).
What DAC are you using?
I've been using a DIY Monica NOS DAC w/ the N-30. The onboard DAC sounds OK, however.
Been looking at streamers for a while but, I'm still undecided on which type of player format to get NAS based or an on board hard drive?
The issue I have with on board hard drives, is that the new mechanical hard drives have terrible reliability. How do you back-up a proprietary on-board HD streamer? The biggest PITA is the amount of time that it takes to rip a collection to CD, and to have it tagged properly and include the artwork. Backups are a necessity IMO.
What is that you like about this player in particular?
Thanks
I like the fact that there really isn't a lot for me to dislike.
Pros:
It plays any format that I throw at it, in full resolution, with the exception of DSD (the new models playback DSD files).
It sounds great! It's easily as good, or better sounding than playback from a CD player to my DAC. I believe it reclocks the stream.
It has a color display with track info and album cover art
It can be found on eBay for a budget price (easily under $400 new in box)
I can stream over my network from my music server PC (running Minimserver), my cellphone, my laptop, etc.
It has a cellphone app that allows for gapless playback of FLAC files (I haven't confirmed that the gapless playback works...I use BubblePNP w/ Android)
It's non-proprietary...it supports a multitude of formats and I don't need a special server (just one that's DLNA compliant) to make it work.
Cons:
I wish the display showed the album art larger and the song title smaller.
It isn't easy to navigate the menus with the remote or the buttons on the unit itself.
The Pioneer Control App kind of sucks (doesn't display album art on your phone, is difficult to navigate. This can be bypassed by using BubblePNP or UpNp Android apps which work great w/ the N-30)
-Hope that helps.
