Hello From TX!
« on: 5 Sep 2015, 09:13 pm »
Hello,

I have been a long time lurker of this site and now I have joined to become part of Audio Circle.   I have always considered myself to be more of an audio enthusiast rather than a hard core audiophile.  I have had modest systems that sounded pretty good to my ears and I still do, as my current system is composed of mid-fi Marantz and Quad speakers.  I am, however,  looking to take steps to slowly upgrade my system as my budget permits.  I have found this site to be a goldmine of information related to audio and hi fidelity, so I am glad to be here! I am looking forward to sharing ideas and experiences with you all.  Howdy :thumb:

Which Quads?  I've heard the small floorstanders and they are mighty fine.

Welcome.  AC is well represented in Texas.  Let us know where you are... there may be a AC member nearby. I'm just outside Abilene.

Thanks for the greetings, ya'll.  I live in Austin, the Oak Hill area (SW).  The Quads are 22L2 floor standers.  I have had them for about two years.  They are a neutral sounding speaker.  The highs are laid back but that may be due to the fact that my music room is dampened with furnishings, carpet and drapes.  I like  them nonetheless as they do more right than wrong.  They excel with jazz and vocals.  They do ok with rock but I notice they get a little congested in the midrange when playing dense rock at moderate to high volume.

One question I have for you AC'ers:  my music room is 10x13x10.  Now, I have read that floor standers are too big for rooms that are small.  I guess my room is small.  Would I benefit by switching to monitors?  I confess that I prefer floor standers just because I like the greater soundstage they throw out.  I have heard conflicting thoughts about this, however.  I have a good friend who worked in audio sales for a number of years and he said there is nothing wrong with floor standers in my size room.  Anyhow, just wondering what the consensus on this might be?  :?
