James:

1) How does streaming from a USB output of the original BDP-1 compare with
streaming from a USB output of the BDP-1USB, and a USB output of the BDP-2?
Is it exactly the same or inferior?

2) Can a USB output of the BDP-1 stream all of the following formats:
44.1KHz, 48KHz, 88.2KHz, 96KHz, 176.4KHz, 192KHz, 352.8KHz, 384KHz and DSD 2.8MHz, 5.6MHz, 11.2MHz?
If not all of them, then you will implement all before the BDA-3 is released, right?

3) Can the BDP-1 work with those USB cables that have two USB A plugs (one for data and one for ground)?
Have you tried it?

Thanks!

Hi

I know some of the answers but will leave for Chris.

Currently only the BDP-2 supports DSD512, but is untested.  384PCM is ALS supported on all platforms, but has never been tested.

There isn't any difference in the software between any of the units and as such he USB behaviour is identical.

If no difference on the software, then why does only BDP-2 support DSD512?

Are you guys going to test all the formats before you release the BDA-3?

Did you mean to say DSD256 (instead of DSD512)?

Or is DSD256 working fine and is tested?

Also I had a third question:

3) Can the BDP-1 work with those USB cables that have two USB A plugs (one for data and one for ground)?

Those devices (which use those cable) are typically used between the player and the DAC along with a power supply (not sure how you intended to implement it with the BDP-1 - in my case the cable comes out of the player into the power supply which has two outputs and then the cable is used from that point to go into the DAC).  The workability depends on the design of the DAC chip (and whether the USB chip is self powered).  I used this list before I bought one along with a power supply for my Meitner DAC -  http://www.aqvox.de/usb-power_en.html.  The list indicates the BDA-1 is also compatible.  I have a Teac UD-501 in a secondary system which is not compatible.
