I had an audition today  with the RM-30's and the gear was Music Fidelity-Nuvista  intergrated amp(275 watt) and Modright modded tubed sacd player .  Bogen interconnects with Music Fidelity speaker wire. Nice gear.

After the first 1/2 hour listen I adjusted the pot since there was"to much bass". Slight increase in treble and decrease in midrange. Their faces just glowed as it was obvious that the sound previous was not what they wished for. The bass tightened up and was much more exact and less boomy.

The midrange came alive and the female opera singer was unbelievable. The auditioner is an ex-opera singer and know what this and classical music sounds like and was extremely pleased that the sound was so real.

Oh...but slight to much treble now. Cymbals and tympany were slighty harsh so less treble and now really big smiles on their faces with exact tight bass.

They relistened to some previous cuts etc. etc.

So can adjust pots affect the bass????  Oh I think so!!!

For those that have the Rm-30's and are not getting proper bass ...again try the method of placement as stated by Brian with being close to the back and side wall with side woofers outward. Then make adjustments till you get it right. It still amazes me how little of an adjustment you have to make to get it right. Like putty, it is very easy to go past this point as I did today.   Yes of course, make sure your placement is correct etc.

The bass is there......you just have to find it.

Besides moving the speaker further back,  Brian suggested-no, told me- to increase the treble from where I had it set to improve my bass.  My bass is definitely better and I agree that there must be some balance between the pot settings and bass response.

This is why I posted this. There has been discussion about this in the past but I really did not know how profound a difference it can make. It seems people are making putty adjustments and overlooking pot adjustments for bass. I think it is a bit more then just "fine tuning".

BTW- when Brian "tells you" to do something....he is usually correct. His hearing is untouchable......even from hundreds of miles away!!!

I am glad that you were able to realize the full potential of your speakers.

Not a bad speaker now.....is it????

I have the RM/X's and fully concur that the midrange pot adjustment is VERY important to overall bass response (let alone, of course, the postioning.....mine within 24" of  my side and back walls).  I now realize, thanks to Eric K (ekovalsky) that the "midrange" pot really handles mids all the way down to mid bass response.  The upper bass regions can get too aggressive with the midrange pot even slightly too high, or conversely a bass suckout with them too low.  Play a well-recorded (Mapleshade, etc.) cd with good acoustic bass and then make miniscule adjustments to both l and r mid pots.  Also realize (and we've documented this many times, sorry to repeat) that the two speakers pot adjustments may not be identically oriented (i.e one may go from 6pm to 3pm, the other from 6:30 to 3:30.....) so make sure you know the start points of each and adjust indentically with that correction.
