I'm looking for a sub to augment the bass of the VMPS rm40.  Besides the VMPS New Original and the VMPS New Larger sub, is there anything else I should look at?  I'm looking for tight, musical bass that goes down as close to 16Hz as possible.  Also, it should be in a box enclosure (no cylinder).  Thanks.

How 'bout an M&K MX-5100?

I've felt the MX-5000 on a few different occasions. It's certainly got the ability to go deep yet remain very tight. And the MX-5100 should perform the same, it just fires rearward instead of forward.

But you could probably get 2 or 3 PMD 15's from DIYCable.com for the price of one MX-5100...

Thanks, guys.  I'm looking at them.  Any ideas how these would compare to the VMPS subs?

The VMPS larger is the only sub I've ever heard (and I've heard a few) that sounds as good as ThomasW's 12 Shiva's Dancing IB sub (IMO).  It is an amazingly good sub.

Tyson, have you compared the VMPS Larger with your monster DIY sub?  I'm looking to stay around $1K so the VMPS are leading candidates right now.  Thanks.

Bally, um... are you kidding me?   :o  Weighing in at 350lbs, standing at 6' 9"" tall and costing a mere $8K, the Bladder Buster looks like the sub to get... if I'm Bill Gates.   :?

That's what ya want; a sub to make all fluids vacate your body! Well, at least the marketing dept. had some fun there! Heh!

My suggestion; buy whatever sub that fits your budget.  Then knock down all the walls in your house.

My sub has more output down real low, but the Larger is no slouch in the low stuff.  Mine just happens to have exceptional low bass output.  But pretty much everything else is better on the Larger sub.  It's a MUCH better sub for music, and almost as good as my sub for movies with low bass.

Tyson, how low does your DIY go?  In the low teens?  Did you build that monster yourself?  The VMPS Larger is spec-ed down to 17Hz.  I'm specularting 16Hz or so in-room.  I'm amazed that yours can go lower and spit out more output.  Does the Larger you listened to have megawoofer and soundcoat option?

Anyway, since tight, well-controlled bass is what I'm after, it looks like the VMPS Larger is the way to go.

Thanks.

My sub is tuned to 16 hz, so, not much deeper than the Larger, but mine will do 16hz with more power - 2 eighteen inch Passive Radiators with almost 3 inches of excursion equals a LOT of air movement, so deep bass on the blueprint cube pressurizes the room so much that it feels like you are under water.  But apart from that, the blueprint can't really hold a candle to the Larger.  A pair of larger's will probably get you the same low bass output capabilities and give you better quality bass to boot.

Thanks, guys.
