Looking for a non-RIAA'd vinyl rip
« on: 18 Jul 2015, 07:51 pm »
Guys, I'd like to test RIAA correction via convolution and am looking for a file to test it with.  A vinyl rip with no RIAA correction applied.

I've done some googling with no success.

Any ideas?  Thanks!

I think that is going to be a problem. You need to bring the signal up to line level for your computer (or what ever) to take the signal. One idea that I have is with a digital audio balun, which will (unfortunately) convert it to an unaltered digital signal. Since you are probably going to process this file in your computer anyway, it might be the way to go.

So the path would be turntable>cartridge>digital balun>cat5 wire to some digital connector converter to transform the signal from the cat5 to S/PDIF...........and I'm out on a limb here. You might be able to take the two wires from the cat5 and simply put a RCA connector on it to get it into a converter box (S/PDIF to USB).....

Now I need help....

Thanks Wayner.  Its not super uncommon to do RIAA in the digital realm.  Pure Vinyl has been touting the virtues of doing it this way for a long time:

You can also apply an RIAA curve via a simple vst or convolution.

Guys, I'd like to test RIAA correction...

Would a Hagerman iRIAA2 - Inverse RIAA Filter work for what you want to do?
"The iRIAA Filter is a two-channel passive inverse RIAA response filter for use in testing phono preamplifiers."

I've never used it but apparently Audacity has an RIAA inversion filter:

(It's for a different purpose, but it seems like it might work for yours as well.)

Thanks guys.  Just looking for a non-RIAA'd vinyl rip, though.  I can handle the RIAA correction via convolution.  I just want to test it out and see how it sounds.
