Looking for a 14B-SST or SST2
« on: 16 Jul 2015, 02:15 am »
Hi folks,

Big Bryston fan here. I am currently using a 9B-ST in my 5-channel system and a 4B-ST in my 2-channel system. I am looking to upgrade my 2-channel amp to a 14B-SST or SST2, depending on price. Preferably in black, 19" with handles  :)

Would greatly appreciate any leads! I'm in the US, but would it be worth reaching out to a Canadian dealer, given the current exchange rate??

Thanks for any help!

Ben

there are a pair of 28Bsst2 for sale on Audiogon for under $10,000.  Also check Canuck audio mart.

Unfortunately the 14's just don't come up all that often so you'll have to be constantly looking.

I could have sworn there was a 14 on Audiogon very recently but I don't see it there now.

28's on the other hand seem to be popping up a fair bit lately. 7's are actually more rare it seems the past few months.

I just checked Canuck Audio Mart and today may be your lucky day if you want to buy from Canada as there is a pair of 28B-SST's (same pair as on Audiogon). The ad states SST's (not SST2's) however in the description on Audiogon (not in the Canuck description) it mentions SST2's but unless the innards were upgraded the power button seems to confirm they are SSTs' not SST2's. These are 17" and sliver thus no handles.

Also on Canuck are a pair of 7B-SST2's, 19" in black with handles.

Plus there is a 14B-SST (not SST2 but it is the C series version). It's 19" with handles but in silver. The price seems very good.

The Canuck buck took another dump today, down to a 5 year low so those Bryston units on Canuckaudiomart are attractively priced when factoring in today's exchange rate...

True - I never really thought about it that way.  I was conscious of looking at it the other way.  In the beginning of 2003, I think it (the Canadian Dollar) was about 62 cents vs. the USD.  Then it seemed to be even for the longest time.

Phil, I remember it well given I was a somewhat early adopter of Super Audio and with SACD software virtually non-existent in Canada at the outset discs via the US were damn expensive.

As a side note, I was one of Richard Kern's (US based modder of SACD players) early customers and at that time I dumped a pile of converted Canuck bucks into modding a player. I don't even want to revisit the money I threw into the hobby at that time. If I had to do it all over again I wouldn't  :duh:

BTW, the Canuck buck went down again today to pretty much an 11 year low - even better deal for a US buyer of Bryston gear located in Canada. Going to hurt as in short order as I'll be in northern Idaho for some vacation time  :(
