BOT (Bryston Optical Transport) Feedback
« on: 22 Jun 2015, 10:04 am »

Bryston recent released BOT-1 called Digital Transport to partner with BDP-2 Digital Player. AV Designs just delivered a unit and it works wonders to my digital front end! I can now play CD that sounds as good as the ripped files. BOT-2 read the CD which buffer with BDP-2 before sending to BDA-2 DAC explains it.

What's amazing is, with the BOT-1, I do not need to deal with the hustles of ripping music files using my computer/laptop, transfer to my SSD & refresh my BDP to update the new uploaded music files; all these jobs are cleverly been taken care of by this small 1/3 sized stature that is not only cute looking but it expanded my BDP-2 to a mighty digital ripping machine!

I can now listen to the CD while ripping. And I can also burn my favorite playlists to CD-R. How nice!!

I suspect he meant to say BOT-1, pretty easy typo when the other two pieces he references are the BDP-2 and BDA-2

Only had time to listen to part of one CD. Sounds pretty sweet to me. I also liked how easy it is to burn the CD. I'll compare it to the BDC-1 in the future. Right now I'm gonna install the new sound card into the BDP-2.

Interesting CD Archive issue I found, ripping from CDs.

Ripping Steve Roach's Afterlight CD, which contain a single 73 minute track, the listing in the Media Player shows it as 13 minutes (you know, like 60 + 13).

Thanks, Ken

Hello!

Does BOT-1 really allow for burning of music stored onto thumbdrives onto a CD-R as well?

When can we see the BOT-1 on Bryston's website?

Cheers!

Does BDP even have a built-in CD burning application?

Cheers!

Hi

The new BDP software recognizes the BOT-1  (CD Player and Burner) is attached and supplies the appropriate software to run it.

James,
Any plans to carry USB cables on the Bryston website for the BOT-1 and BDP-2 connection?
I know this may have been addressed in another thread but are there minimum cable length requirements for the AES/EBU and USB connections between these two components?

Looking to add these two bad boys to my Bryston family of components :thumb:

Thank you!

Hi

We include a USB cable with the BOT-1.  Have not tried very long lengths but so far no issues.

You can upgrade the cable if you desire.

It never occurred to me, if that track was 61 seconds longer he never would have been able to sell it on cd

Yes, currently it's limited in features with the intention of building on what we have.  When you insert a blank cd into the BOT a button labeled "burn" appears next to eject.  When you click it the BDP will burn your current playlist as an audio cd with cdtext.

I honestly don't know how many CD players support cdtext, but if my 2011 Jetta with its stock stereo supports it I would imagine most other car CD players would also support it.

Hi Chris!

What if some of the files in the playlist are high-resolution? Surely, CD players cannot read these files so what would happen? Would the BDP notify me it cannot burn that file to the disc?

Cheers!
