I am selling my beloved Reference 3A De Capo's. These are in the stunning, matte Dark Cherry veneer cabinets, which are no longer available from the manufacturer since Reference 3A went to the grey, Nextel finish on all their speakers. These have the most recent main driver, including the Surreal Acoustic Lens in the center. Best of all, when Reference 3A switched from a silk dome tweeter to their magnificent Beryllium dome tweeter, I upgraded the tweeter to the Beryllium Dome - it brought an already wonderful speaker to a new level of refinement.
The De Capo's classic design has been evolving for nearly 30 years. It really is a fabulous loudspeaker. The highs are silky smooth, the low end is surprisingly robust and it is very, very coherent: the music sounds all of one piece, probably due to the lack of a real crossover - only a single capacitor to protect the tweeter, with the main driver coupled straight to the amp! I don't think a 2-way speaker can sound any better than this.

These speakers would be a 9 out of 10 on the Audiogon rating scale if not for a
very small scratch on the lower, outside edge of the left speaker. This scratch is barely visible from more than 2 feet away. In actual usage, because it's on the outside edge of the left speaker (they're sold in mirror imaged pairs, with the tweeters oriented to the outside edge) you cannot see it all from the listening position. The picture was taken from 4 inches away, making the scratch look far bigger than it is. The speakers really are in very beautiful, flawless shape otherwise!
I wrote a review of the De Capo's on Audio Asylum and Audiogon. Here's a link:

Reference 3A product page has links to a number of great professional reviews.
Why am I selling? Last winter I switched my amp to a low power, SET tube amp and although the De Capo sounds VERY fine with the amp, I would like to try a more sensitive speaker deliberately made for low power tube amps.
These speakers have given me many, many hours of musical delight and I know you'll love them, too! They currently retail for just shy of $3000. I am asking $1800 for the speakers. The stands are not part of this price but if you are interested in a package deal, let me know. They are the highly sought after Osiris 24" model.
Reasonable offers are welcome.
Shipping to Continental USA only. I have the original shipping carton, user manual and speaker grilles, which are flawless. At my asking price, no charge for PayPal and
