« on: 14 Jun 2015, 07:04 pm »
I will start someday to re rip all my cd's to lossless.

?- how do I put lossless on my iPod, as well as the AAC music??

I have installed. The new Helloween cd as lossless, but I can't uncheck the box which says convert to:128k I get errors saying not enough space. How do I only put t he 1 cd in lossless format on my iPod while keeping all remaining in AAC format?

Confused.....help

I sold my (160GB) iPod Classic months back and most of the items were 320bps MP3s and I had done several to Apple Lossless no problem.  Is there space on the iPod?  When I sold it I dragged out my old 32GB iPhone 4 and converted everything to 128 AAC so it would fit (it would hold about 2,500 songs in 320bps MP3s but I probably have 4,500 ripped for it).  I only listen to it on long trips or occasionally in the car.  While it is a different device (vs. the iPod Classic), I did have 2,500 songs in 320bps a few years back that I used a few times with an iPod dock in a spare system and did use it a couple in the car and didn't notice any difference in sound quality vs. the iPod Classic.  I noticed the sound quality difference right away with 128 AAC.  Not that it is the worst I've heard (the MP3s were ripped for an old Western Digital Media Player and it would only play them back as 128 MP3s for whatever reason and the AAC sounds better to me at that bit rate).

Does this help?  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5915985

As mentioned, this article is as useless as a chocolate coffee pot :)

Moral of the story? = Ditch iTunes.

Not a big iTunes fan but I don't understand why there is an issue (of course I only sync stuff once in a while so not an expert - I probably have about five or six hundred MP3s at 320bps  - some Amazon music purchases where they gave me MP3s that I have not gotten to - I've been putting it off as I am thinking about getting another player for the car) .  On my old iPod Classic most of the stuff was 320bps MP3s and I did a few lossless.

This explains anyway why you wouldn't want 128bps -  http://appleinsider.com/articles/12/03/12/itunes_106_adds_option_to_sync_192kbps_256kbps_quality_audio_to_devices - so even if you ditch it, I wouldn't call it a loss.  Also, Apple is famous for asking for money to answer questions so it may be better to look at (Apple) forums for answers.

I have iTunes on my main PC basically from having those Amazon MP3s.  I have lossless CDs in FLAC and hi-rez stuff (both DSD files and hi-rez PCM).  I just want to be able to get a player that I can have lots of storage so I don't have to keep changing what's on it (or SD cards) to hear music.  With the space hi-rez takes up, I'd like something that stores at least 500GB (two 256GB SD cards would be fine) and doesn't cost tons (like a couple of hundred tops).

That sounds good to me   Just trying to help.  I think if you try a nicely recorded cd on your main system vs. the 128 iPod file you'll hear a difference.  If not, then perhaps you don't have to do any more.

Many don't really care for it (including me) - here are a few examples:

It has been on my agenda for a bit to look at a new solution for the car (which can store 15GB on its own but that is too small for me) but I just haven't gotten to it.  With the Cloud as long as my calendar and Apps are backed up, I could care less about iTunes.

I get errors saying not enough space.

Think that's the answer to your question.  You don't have enough space to sync all your current tracks (presumably your whole library) at greater than 128KBPS.  Under options check "sync only checked songs and videos".  Then under the "Music" setting in the sidebar choose the albums or playlists that you do want to sync.  Then uncheck "covert higher bit rate songs".  If it still says "not enough space", you'll have to select less albums / tracks to sync.

If you want ALL your albums at a higher than 128kbps bit rate, I'm guessing you're going to need an iPod with greater storage capacity.

Hope that helps.........

FWIW, I keep my main library as uncompressed flac.  Then I use DBPoweramp Music Converter (or Batch Converter) to make a parallel Apple Lossless library for iTunes (which only is used to load my iPhone).

Never though of that (good use of it).  Have the music converter.  If I ever end up with an unused iPhone with more space (have the 32GB iPhone 4 in the car now and my 5 is just 16GB and is mainly used if I don't want to turn on the iPad Mini for JRemote).
