Clarinet, skipping the balance control

Would a 100k log pot be OK if I skip the balance control in the Cornet. (The schematic calls for a 50k balance, and a 50k log pot for main attenuation.)

Yes, you can use a 100k pot.  Just jumper across the balance control.

Skip balance control in Clarinet

Hi Jim,

I will try to replace a volume control with a 24 stereo stepped attenuator 100K but I got confused that how do you jump across the balance control. Stereo attenuator has two layers which wires should I connect to a first layer and which wires to a second layer? (I did not assemble the Clarinet). Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Tan

If you skip the balance control, do you have to then use a 100K volume pot?

Hi Jim

I too, hope to replace the "standard" volume control with a PEC unit I bought from DIY Hifi Supply and would like to know which row of three contacts connects to which on the PCB.

Has anyone tried those Cree diodes yet?

Cheers

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your help. I have already done the jumping across the balance control like you draw. But I also got confused when I took off the volume control I do not know how to solder from the bypass balance to the stereo attenuator (six posts) since I see only three wires came out of balance control. Would you please help me to solve this problem once again? Many thanks.

Regards,
Tan

Volume control is a little odd.  Not the pinout one would expect.  Try this:
