I received my Odyssey dual mono 2 days ago. Ever since I turned it on, there has been a hum coming out of the left channel, not the right, ONLY THE LEFT. This makes absolutley no sense and im really getting mad. People say try a power conditioner but why would the right channel be fine, but the left has noise coming out of it.. Ive tried everything. Ive ran extension cords to diffrent circuts in my house, same problem, but the hum is a different pitch every time. No matter where I plug the right channel its always dead silent. I think UPS broke the amp. Looks like ill be luggin the 70lb peice of....gah, back to the factory!!!  :x  :x  :x  :x  :x  :x  :x  :x  :x  :x  :x  :x

If you have checked all connections and everything seems OK, shut the amp off and unplug it. Wait about an hour so the caps discharge. If you are comfortable with this, take the top cover of the amp off and check the fusses on the main circuit board. There are four of them. It is possible that one may be blown. Let us know what you find.

The top is open. How do I tell if one is blown? By the way I have a Dual Mono, which means there are 8 fuses  :?:

4 for the left and 4 for the right......I think

OK, you can check the fusses with an ohm meter but I suspect that you don't have one. So just take one fuse out at a time and hold it up to a light and have a look. If it's blown, it will be very obvious.

It would still work. There have been reports of a few people having one of the fuses blown and they would be hearing noise or distortion out of one channel.

Check your interconnect cable.
I had that problem with a monoblock that drove me nuts for 2 weeks.
It turned out to be an intermitten ground on the interconnect cable.

Good luck!

OK, try swapping both of the speaker cables coming out of the amp with each other to see if the hum stays in the left speaker or moves to the right.

This would seem to indicate a problem with the left speaker. Could you list your system including I/C's and speaker wire?

With my old amplifier this never happened. Im not even using interconnects right now, just the amp, power cords, speaker wire, and speakers. Def tech BP7004 speakers, and IXOS Speaker wire. When I plug the channel in on a different circut the buzzing is quieter but just a little, and at different times of the day its quieter or louder....

Im sorry that was a typo, the problem moves to the right channel. Which indicates a broken amp......This is just great...By any chance could it be the electric in the house?

OK, put the speaker wires at the amp end back to the way they are supposed to be. After you do that, swap the inputs going into the amp with each other. Let me know which speaker hums now. Make sure you turn all power off when swapping the I/C's at the amp end.

There are no IC's hooked up. Its just an amp. and speakers.

Don't worry-Klaus will take good care of you! :thumb: The shipping company was more than likely responsible for whatever happened to your amp. My Tempest came damaged courtesy of the asshats at UPS.
