Waking this morning and springing out of bed I knew it was going to be a good day, make that a great day! NATIONAL DONUT DAY!
As the coffee percolated,we excitedly got into our elastic waist pants and watched as the group gathered outside. No Breakfast today...Donuts!
Taking three cars we winded first into Krispy Kreme.Would there be specials or even free donuts to celebrate???? As we fought our way into the doorway, one at a time mind you,we started working through the little round blessings, simply divine they were, and we all had a laugh at Jerry and his "bear claw"..... this is not the day for that foolishness.
Next stop...Dunkin' Donuts....Hmmm seemed they missed the Donut day announcement, but we moved in,fogging up the case,a little help here, dozens and dozens. We all had a big laugh when Bessie asked for "munchkins", Ha! That is for Halloween silly, and they are pumpkin glazed balls of goodness, girl you are going to have to wait! We were all getting a little tired by lunchtime and opted for the drive through on the way back, for, you got it...DONUTS! My favorite, all time, maybe orange, at the original Bob's Big Boy on Broadway in Glendale,California circa 1965. Fifteen cents each!
Your favorite?

All the Dunkin Donuts around where I live were a zoo today.  I just had a cup of coffee in one just before closing and more people came in for free ones but they had none.

Who would have though the doughnut's history is documented by the Smithsonian?

Hanson Gregory may not have invented the doughnut recipe but he or his mother probably did invent the hole.
