Hi Ears,

I went for the cd+dvd myself!  For many artists Europe seems to have an easy 6 month lead time on us po 'mericans  :(     Um, not to mention all the ones we never ever even hear of...

And that is a great album.  I use the "title cut" sometimes as a reference for several qualities.

I like all the Knopfler solo efforts and hope that they all end up on sa-cd, as well as some of the Dire Straits releases who are all released through Mercury in Europe.

This would be very 8)

JVC did a re-master of Brothers in Arms in xrcd which is simply wonderful!  I'm afraid it's long out of print though, grab it if you ever get the chance...

I have a copy of the XRCD of Brothers In Arms and it does sound very nice. I just ordered Shangri-La from Amazon UK, looking forward to receiving it. Thanks for mentioning this!

Hi Woodsea,

How do you look up JVC XR's at the CDJungle site?  Or was is it kinda pot luck?

Great review on the AKSA BTW :!:

Thanks for the comment re: the AKSA.
They do not have a search by xrcd but by artist.
Good luck in your searches!

I finally got my Knopfler sa-cd from amazon u.k.

It is mostly slower softer songs as compared to Knopflers other releases and 3-4 songs are decent upon first listen.
The rest hopefully will grow on me, much like Knopflers other releases have.

The sa-cd has top notch sonics imo.

As far as the xrcd of BIA, it is recorded at a higher db than the latest Warner re-master and definitly sounds brighter.
I wonder how much this plays into the perception that it is a superior recording to the Warner version?

I don't have the Warner ed. to compare it with, maybe Woodsea can comment?  Though I seem to recall him commenting on a pending home move...

My UK order arrived in about 10 days, which I think is quite good!  I've waited far longer on domestic orders

I have both the redbook and the SACD version. The recording is so good that I hear only a SLIGHT improvement on the SACD. Not worth the extra $$ IMHO but YMMV.

Musically speaking, though, I wish Mark would whiff a couple of lines of cocaine and REALLY break it down with his guitar, a la "Dire Straits" the debut album in the 1970's.

I like "Shangri La," but I miss the fire and brimstone guitar riffs!

Do a search on "XRCD" by title (instead of artist).  27 pages of XRCDs come up...
