I'm currently using external HDD's with my BDP-2 but I'm looking to switch over to a NAS. Which brand(s) are best suited to working with the BDP?

Synology is also good in the NAS market.

I'm running Windows Server 2012 Essentials out of the (proverbial) box and it's great too, but far more work to setup than most people want.

I am using ZyXEL NSA320 since 2013, it is "on" in my closet for the last 5 months

What you expect when asking "best suited to working with the BDP"?

What I looked for:
- gigabit Lan and / or USB 3.0: for fast transfer between your PC or HDD and NAS
- redundancy - most of them provide RAID, I prefer also to keep it in sync with my PC using SyncToy
- some noise suppression from the running HDDs or fans - depends where will be placed
- not expensive

Another vote for Synology. Their product support is outstanding.  They host popular servers such as Minim, Squeeze server, Plex as well as DLNA and iTunes.

Most differences in terms of performance probably don't come into play until you start using a NAS for video streaming and / or transcoding.

Make your own with FreeNAS software.

 http://www.logicsupply.com/ offers some nice hardware. Some of the fan-less cases look as nice.....ok ALMOST as nice as the Bryston hardware. Performance is not really important, but pay attention to heat distribution if you end up using 3.5 inch drives.

-edit- while performance is not an issue for inter-connectivity to players, it might be for backups.

If your looking to keep it simple I have found the Western Digital MyCloud NAS product excels at simple.  They come pre-configured to publically share the entire drive, so no messing with passwords.  With simple comes limitations, but if you just want to move your music to a NAS then it likley an ideal solution.
