upsampling on BDA-1
« on: 13 May 2015, 11:58 am »
hi, Bryston!

i was playing some 176.4/24 and 192/24 files and the upsampling button is still amber/green.
i understand that the upsampling feature is made for songs below 176.4 and 192, correct?!?

so, shouldn't the upsample button turn itself "off" if the resolution is already 176.4 or 192 khz??

From memory (been a while since I owned the BDA-1) the upsample light also can indicate under voltage. I believe it is explained in the manual.  Have you tested the voltage from the wall outlet?

Hi Al

No the upsample button light will stay on but will not affect 176 or 192 sample rates.

Phil,

i don't think it's a voltage problem. but thanks for the input anyway :thumb:

Hi Alex!

Do a little experiment with your BDA-1:

play a track with a sampling rate of less than 176.4 or 192 and toggle the switch for up-sampling. There will bea short pause when the DAC enables or disables the circuitry. Then play a 176.4 or 192 track and toggle the switch. You will hear no pause. This is because the DAC doesn't actually do anything, all it does is preparing itself for what you might want to play next and whether it will be up-sampled or not.

Hope this helps!
Cheers!
