FS: Niteshade Passive Preamp
« on: 8 May 2015, 03:31 pm »
Following description from Blair Lamphear, founder of  Niteshade Audio.
"Niteshade Audio's most commonly known facet can be succinctly described in one sentence: High End audio equipment through the use of efficient, highly discreet design typologies.

Key features of the Passive-1:
1) Hand-made enclosure, solid welded heavy gauge steel.
2) Gold plated RCA inputs and outputs
3) Star grounding
4) High quality carbon track volume control, fluid dampened
5) Long life- measured in decades
6) A 100% passive design, good for frequencies from DC on up past audible frequencies - no power required
7) 100K input impedance that stays stable

The Passive-1 is a great choice when one or more of the following apply:
1) Very sensitive speakers are being used
2) You are EXTREMELY sensitive to noise
3) Your amp has a high gain front end
4) Audio purists: There is NO signal processing, passive or active. Input tone quality cannot be modified.
5) High quality with a small footprint would be very convenient
6) A possible way to eliminate ground loops
7) Never worry about batteries, tubes or transistors
8) A brilliant way to add additional inputs to your sound system - there are 2 inputs

Sonic Abilities: It will easily handle your source without any signal modification. You will love the volume control. There is much more travel distance on this passive than on most passive or active preamps. A longer travel path makes it much easier to place the volume control exactly where you would like it."

$175 including shipping in CONUS and PayPal fees.

I mainly use a Pass B-1 passive that I built, and also have a decware csp if I am in the mood for tubes... Why do you ask?

You said you were thinning out your pre-amps. I'm on the look out for a few things including a cheap turntable, cheap phono pre-amp, cheap amp/integrated, cheap DAC, and a headphone amp.
