I had a listen to these at a dealer today and I thought they were really good.  They are a little bit on the warm side of neutral and they make very good bass from just a 5" woofer.  The rest of the system was all Musical Fidelity gear including the upsampling cd player.  If you have a small room and are looking for a speaker under $1,000 definitely check these out.

ZooDog, where in Boston did you listen to them?

I actually didn't ask what the exact price was but I believe they are around $800.  I listened to them at Fidelis A/V which is in Salem, NH, about 30 minutes north of Boston.

ZooDog/Jasoc,

They are list at $700.00.  I bought them and owned them for about 6 months - extremely easy to listen to, very pleasant in my system.  Good stand a must as they are quite good.

I bought the rosewood finish and it's amazing for the money - there ain't no hands like Chinese hands for this finish at this price!  7 sides of thick gloss over rosewood finish and nicely dense cabinet structure.

They now reside in my Dads system as I set one up for him and I just heard them the other day for a while...they are a really nice speaker.  I'm not sure they are deservant of ALL the praise of the British mags (they are biased to British brands), but thay are definitely should be on any shopping list for small nice speakers under $1000.00.

Jason,

They were pretty easy to place...I bought nice 28" tall stands (they are kinda' small, so they need 24" minimum stands) and filled them with sand.  They sounded good on them.

After giving them to Dad, I bought something rather hastily in the Vandersteen 1C's.  A local dealer had a well cared for pair and the price was great at $475.00.  Tho they sounded okay in the showroom, I never warmed to them thoroughly at home.  That metal tweeter hurt my ears!  The Quad was way easier to listen to for a long time at any sound level (I typically don't play that loud).

I now use a Radio Shack LX-8 that has been tricked out pretty nicely right now and sits sturdily on 18" stands.  I left a post on 'Lab' on several of the improvements I've added to it and plan to in the future.
