FS: Clearwave Audio 5R Monitors

An outstanding speaker as it should be with having drivers such as the Scanspeak midrange driver and the RAAL 70-10D Ribbon Tweeter with Amorphous Core. The quality of the cross-overs is first rate, and the cabinet construction is as one would expect with these components.

I got a deal on these speakers. I bought directly from Jed, the owner of Clearwave Audio. Clearwave Audio specializes in custom built high end audio speakers. He built a limited number of 5R’s and I was the recipient of one such pair. Part of why I got a deal was that one speakers finish on top has some modeling, that is, a bit of a pattern in the clear. I had to really look at compare the finishes between the 2 speakers to even notice it!

There is a review I wrote some time ago about these speakers in Audiogon. Here is the link;

I have pics and auditions are welcome.

Thanks for looking

Finally got around to post some pics. Type of wood? I wrote Jed and asked him as I didn't see anything in writing that eluded to the type of wood used. These are very dense speakers.

what are the measurements?  Curious if they might fit into my space/cabinet....You may be local as well which might help for audition and shipping (or lack thereof) purposes....

thanks

I'll have to take a tape measurement of them - at work now. I would guess ~14" high by 10" wide by 16" deep.

I'm in South San Jose and would welcome an audition.

What is the Scanspeak midbass driver?  Judging by the RAAL faceplate, I'm guessing it's a Revelator 5" or 5-1/2" ?

And if that's correct I wouldn't expect the width to be much over 8"W ?

Do you know the quoted sensitivity?

Anyway, beautiful looking speakers with high quality drivers.  The Opera speakers with Scanspeak Revelators that I previously owned had some of the best sounding midbass I've heard.

I didn't measure it but looking at the photo's I took and looking at the photo's of the Scanspeak drivers being sold at Madisound, I would say 5.5". They certainly perform great bass in our room well out into the room. We paired them with Adam subs which carry 11" drivers and ran them through the Anti-Mode 2.0. That's why we took so long getting a reference set of speakers, the big Ushers (that and being broke) the sound in our room amazed even hardcore audio folks like ourselves.  :wink: Now I got to pay for some speaker cables that cost more than these speakers.  :duh:
