Hi!
Anyone with actual knowledge/experience with this amp?

Likely one of the many nameless Asian imports for which getting service would be a big goose egg.  At the price they are asking, you would be way better off with an entry level Decware Super Zen or entry level Rachel.....waaay better off.

Look at the Decware site under the classified ads, you can find some great products made in the USA and can be serviced if they ever need it. Don't buy junk to drive Great Speakers like Omegas. My 6 watt Rachael is driving our 7XRS speaker amazingly well, I could not ask for more. Just an opinion. Happy listening, Chris.

Thanks for your comments.
I was more interested to hear about the quality of the transformers, sound and reliability. Most stuff is made in China anyways.
Hope to hear from actual owners of any of these amps.
Thanks,
Dan

The transformers that Decware, Ideal Innovations, and Bottlehead use are made in North America.  All affordable options without going offshore.

Are there good Chinese amps with good iron?  Yes.  Glow Audio and Eastern Electric are very good sounding and have an excellent reputation for quality, reliability, and after sales service.

when I sold Hifi while in Europe Consonance , and Jas audio  made some very good sounding gear and japan designs many of their transformers  .
I am using the 18wpc SET Jas Bravo 2.3  and it sounds Excellent .My Omega Alnico XRS6 loudspeakers are a Excellent  match . If anyone truly wants to upgrade any tube equipment I found a Great audio tech that does nothing but repair
or transform your gear to compete with the best out there  http://www.dstubeaudio.com/  in Ma. U.S.A

Thanks Audiophile58!
Is good to know that some Chinese gear can be serviced in the US.
Again, nobody has bought a Raphaelite amp?

I'd like to know as well...there are a couple used R.S 300b amps for sale from AZ.  The seller posted a youtube video, but it sounds horrible.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm primarily looking for single-ended, not push-pull...

If you are in the $1000 range and looking for single ended, I would look at Dennis Had's Inspire line (my avatar is one) and DECWare's offerings.  US made and supported with top, top, sound.

Some available used.

Also, have you ever compared an the Inspire to a DHT SET amp?

Nothing I'm aware of at the moment.  But they come up not infrequently on ebay and audiogon.

My Inspire is the only single ended amp I have had, so no comparisions.   :dunno:

It's a SEP, by the way - single ended pentode.  He is doing some in triode mode recently though.  Mine is bliss compared to anything I've had.  Other than solid state, that would be a couple of conrad-johnson models (which were p-p).

+1. Strange this amp use 6V6 to drive 300B.
It use PCBs also, no hard wiring, too bad.

I'm going to second what pstrisik recommended.  I too have a Dennis Had amp, mine I picked up used and put the money I saved towards getting one of his brand new preamps that he is making.  If you can't find one used and don't have the patience to wait you can't go wrong with buying one straight from Dennis either.  He regularly lists the 6L6 Fire Bottle models for $1099 so just slightly above your budget, but well well worth it.  I highly recommend you read the full thread on Dennis' amps over in the Cary section of audioaficiando, that is what sold me.  Dennis is a great guy, and a blast to deal with.  You can tell he is proud of what he is turning out, and is genuinely excited about them.  Not to mention they sound absolutely amazing with my Omega speakers.  It's a match made in heaven for me!

Oh and the only one I know of currently for sale used, is a special edition Sweet 807 on audiogon.  Its a gorgeous looking amp, I saw it up for sale previously when I was looking for my amp but its was a bit more than I wanted to spend.  It's going for $1350 now, slightly more than what it sold for last time so there might be some room for an offer but I doubt enough to get it down to the $1000 range.
