GR Research the Age of Modification ZOB side fire
« on: 25 Apr 2015, 11:09 pm »
You may know from my past creations that sometimes I just do thing to see if I can as well as for the benefit of others not making my mistakes in the future.   I have always liked the TB 1808 driver, used it a few times, some better than others.   So I found s pair of Decware ZOB s that needed some love and slight adjustments, I decided to fix the design by adding a side firing GR 12 to the lower box to cover the missing bottom 200 hz.   Some things I will state right off the bat: sometimes just building a new speaker is easier than doing dumb mods, thanks to Dave at Pi Audio for the VST plugins for my Mac to fix the top end of these bright speakers, and finally- all the kids were at sleep overs so I was bored.

In final paint.

Oh ya.  The hole was cut I just used  a flush bit to sub in the driver. Your right. I was looking at the sub hole.   I cut that with a jig saw and five cups of coffee.   Hopefully someone will finally finish the Neo 3 Neo 10 upper so I can throw that in there.   Yes shots fired.  ;)

Up and going.  Duratech truck bed liner the roll on version, GR sub in each with peq 370 on back.  The digital eq inside of JRiver taking care of the top end rise.  Super flat.  Sub going up high past 250 hz

I'm happy with them. Need to do some digital mods and maybe stiffen up the box even more and should be good. Just a fun side project.

Looks very nice indeed. Did you use No Rez in the woofer box? I was thinking of doing something very similar with some electrostatic panels I have. The electrostatic panels only  go down to 250Hz or so.

Yes loaded w no Rez for sure.  I reinforced the box also.   It is more than enough.
