Empirical Audio vs. Ridge Street Audio IC's
« on: 28 Sep 2004, 10:42 pm »
I currently own Ridge Street Audio MSE Gen. II's as IC's and speaker cables.  I recently had a chance to audition and, finally purchase, a Bitmeister digital cable (thanks Brian) made by Empirical Audio.  This digital cable was revelation in my system.  Does anyone out there have any idea how Steve's Holophonic PC IC's compare to the MSE Gen. II's?  BTW, I'm quite please with the sound of the MSE II's, just wondering if there might be something better in my system.  Right now, it consists of a sock Sony 7700 as transport, stock PT P-3A DAC, AVA T7R preamp, EA-modded Carver ZR-1600 power amp, and custom made 3-way speakers with all Audiom Focal drivers.  I listen to just about everything, but concentrate mostly on classical.  Thanks.

eichmann eXpress 6 speaker cables and cryotweaks silver ref mkII ICs...these are the BEST i've tried in my system.

for ICs, the Argent Pursangs would be a close 2nd w/ the Jaden Sig and Eichmann eXpress6 ICs in 3rd.

I'm sorry I can't help you with the 2 cables you mentioned but I think you should consider Slinkylinks silver cables (www.slinkylinks.net).  I use their IC between my source and pre and their speaker cables.  Very good detail, excellent coherency from top to bottom, excellent musicality, a sound that is neither copper nor silver because I feel these cable just get out of the way of the music.  I have no idea if it is because of the purity and gauge of the silver, the air dielectric or the Eichmann bullet plugs... I just know I like them a lot and chose them after comparisons with other cables about a year and a half ago.

Spectralman,

Although both Steve's and Robert's digital ic's are quite good, I feel that the VH Audio Cryo'd Pulsar produces better results in my system (it is more dynamic, has a larger soundstage, and provides more detail - all this while being well balanced and very musically enjoyable).

BTW, Chris at VH Audio offers a 60 day trial period so it so easy to just try the ic's in your system and see for yourself.

In terms of analog ic's, I preferred the Argent Audio Jaden and Pursang over both.  However the balanced versions of the VH Audio Pulsars with Furutech Rhodium connectors was even better.  I am in the process of auditioning Robert's Poiema!! ic's and speaker cable right now and will hopefully have a review written in the next 2-3 weeks.  I haven't spent time on the ic's yet, but the speaker cables are exceedingly good!!

Spectralman,

Chris (of VH Audio) is also local - I think he's in Brookfield!
