Question for Scout/ Dynavector DV20XL Owners
« on: 28 Sep 2004, 09:26 pm »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone was experiencing static discharges when lifting their records off the Scout platter?  I am getting loud static discharges with my Dynavector/Scout rig.

Are there any fixes for this?  Possibly grounding something?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

Tom

Do you have your tonearm cables grounded to the phono stage or floating?   Also do you have a ground wire for the bearing?  You can try grounding that to the same ground.  This should eliminate potential difference which leads to static.

If your bearing doesn't have a ground wire, you can experiment but taping a piece of wire at its end, with electrical tape, to the bottom of the bearing.  Then connect this wire to the same ground as your tonearm wire ground.  This will be non-permanent but it'll let you test whether that helps.
