What Bryston Bit do i really need
« on: 14 Apr 2015, 10:26 pm »
I want to purchase a bit . So far i see Audio Advisor sells them . First question is where else would i get one ? Does AA sell the whole line ? I am not looking for surge protection

What i will be plugging into it will be : Oppo 103 bluray player , Cable tv box , Bryston sp2 ,  Mac mini , And possible a bda -1 dac ..

Another question concerns the power cable needed for a bit . My front end is pretty far from a receptacle . My current Furman power bar has an attached cord that is long enough . Something close to  15' . Do the bit's come with stock cords ? If so how long ?  If not can i use a Pangea designed for lower current such as their Ac14se ? The cable is good for class d amps and source components .

Next need ?  is for my Hypex Mono blocks and plug ins for my electostat speakers .What bit would i need ? I see Torus make a model that is $799 forgot the name . Think it starts with a m . Does Bryston make those as well ? Would those apply to my sytem needs ?

Thanks,mike.

Hi Mike,

Yes AA sells all versions of the BIT.

I would say the BIT 15 or BIT 20 would be good choices.

The included cable is about 8 feet but you can certainly use an after market cable.

Not sure what Torus you are referring too but if it is the IS version that does not have surge protection and we do build a BIT version of that model.

Hope this helps

Since the topic is up, is there a break point between choosing the BIT 15 and BIT 20?

I was planning on a BIT 15 (4B-SST2 + 6B-SST2 + SP3 + BDA-2 + BDP-2 + sub woofer + TV + Oppo BDP 105D + Tivo). Presently, I'm in a smaller living room (12x16) and have a toddler, so I almost never play past the 75 db range (usually lower). My hope was the BIT 15 would do for now (everything's already on the same 15A circuit anyway), and then I'd add a BIT 20 one day and move the amps to the BIT 20, leaving all else on the BIT 15.

I'm open to other ideas.

Thanks,

- Garrett

If you have 15 amp service at the wall plug then the BIT 20 is overkill; i.e., not required since you will not use the extra 5 amps.  If you have 20 amp service or plan to get it then go for the BIT 20.

What type of system would the bit 5 work in ? Or what type of components ?

Ok for your sources - not amplifiers.

I recently replaced a Panamax MR4300 with a BIT 15. OK, I think the BIT 15 is beyond amazing.

My reason for going to it was that I was concerned that the MR4300 was choking off the power supply to my Parasound A-21 Amp as well as other components in the system. I think that I can confidently say that there is in fact an improvement to the sound. I first came across the MR4300 or its predecessor about 20+ years ago. At the time, I was using an Adcom ACE-515 surge/power conditioner. It got great reviews but ever so often I would get a shock from it. So, I thought it was best to remove it and use another product. So, I went to my local audio store and picked up the MR-4300. I hooked it up and began to play some CDs. Darn it if I didn't immediately notice a difference in the sound. I am not that picky or acoustically trained to hear differences in sound but this time I did. The music coming from my AVR sounded under powered or muffled for want of a better term. So, I returned the MR 4300 and re-installed the ACE-515.

Now, jumping ahead to couple of years ago. I thought to myself that maybe the latest version of the MR-4300 would be better than the old one. Well, silly me, I don't think it was. I was also dreading having to spend over $2K for a power conditioner. I did my homework and all roads pointed towards Bryston BIT series. This think works wonders.

If anyone is in the market for a power conditioner/surge protector, by all means buy a BIT.

Hi

Yes the Bryston distributor would have the 220V/50Hz versions available - what country are you in?
