5 channel SS amp ?
« on: 7 Apr 2015, 03:10 am »
I was wondering how I should hook up a 5 channel amp for two channel stereo ?

Is that possible ?

I have an opportunity to add an extra stereo setup in my bedroom, using a 5 chnnl amp. Can I use two speakers and get proper stereo sound ?

(Or am I just stupid. )

Thanks,
V....

No. Not stupid.
Just hook up 2 of the 5 channels.
The unused channels just sit idle. No worries.

So I get full stereo sound on my front two chnls ?

And my rear two chnls, do they put out full stereo sound, like the front two ?

(I would be using a parasound hca 1205a. )

Thanks

Is the Parasound the 5 channel amp you were talking about?  You want the two fronts from the main system, two for the bedroom and two for the surrounds in the main system?  That's six channels.  Are you going to be using all of them at the same time?  If so, what speakers?  Or am I confused?

Yea, kind of. I was going to use the rear two for one room and the front two for another. Just wondered if all the outputs were the same ?

Included in the link are the owner's manual and brochure.  The owner's manual indicates:

"Connect loudspeakers with a 4 W or 8 W nominal impedance for normal operation. Both amplifiers
are capable of driving speakers with occasional impedance dips below 2 W. However, sustained high
power operation into loads of less than 4 W may cause overheating and is not recommended."

So again if you are using them at the same time and depending on the speakers used there could be an issue.

The quote from the manual included in the prior post is actually from the 1203 manual which is linked on the page for the 1205 for some reason.  Would assume it is the same specs with two less channels
