Vandersteen Model 7
« on: 4 Apr 2015, 03:31 pm »
Finally had the 7s installed yesterday.  Johnny and Carlos from Audio Connections spent close to 4 hours here after driving 2 hours from the store.  They do this with such care and intensity.  They weren't leaving until they sounded like they should.

They moved the speakers to a couple different positions and alignments and then finally did the low frequency tuning.  We played a copy of the master protection reel of Who's Next during much of the process.

My early impressions (I had a pair of 5As) are that there is a level of detail and delicacy in the mid range which is far superior to the 5A.  I never owned a pair of 5A Carbons.  The high end is also much sweeter.  No graininess at all.

More impressions to follow in a couple weeks.

I've not hear the 7's, but I know a guy that has a pair and loves them.  Congrats.  You can rest easy knowing that you are now cured (for a while) of speaker audiophilia.

I've never heard them either but really like Vandersteens.  Many moons ago I almost bought a pair of the IIcs.

That's what Johnny R. told me.  Keep breaking them in.

I will post some photos soon.  The room is dark so I need to plan some good shots.  They are also about 14 feet apart so need a nice wide angle shot.

14' apart....how wide is your room?

How far away are the speakers?

In my old house I had my 5A's around 9' apart and sat 15-16' away from them.

My room is 27' x 20' so the speakers are on the 20' wall.  Here is a picture with the 5As. I will take shot with the 7s.

The 7s are about 1.5 feet closer to the wall.

Here are a couple photos of the front wall which is 20 feet across.  The screen is 100" diagonal.
