Matsushita / National 7DJ8 Tube
« on: 30 Mar 2015, 12:29 pm »
Thoughts on these?

I own a quad of them and have not been impressed.  Competition is Ediswans, Mullards, and Telefunkens so there is a substantial price difference in the comparison.

These are pretty well touted by 1 of my tube vendors w/ lots of positive reviews, just haven't heard much out of them from my phono stage.

Thanks -

Interesting post.  I have some allegedly "Mullard tooled" Matsushita 6922's in my Audio Research line stage whatever that means.  They were expensive and really couldn't detect any improvement over what they replaced (?).  Recommendations and why are appreciated.  Thanks

I was told these Jap versions usually have less plate power dissipation.

New production Telefunken Black Diamond E88CC/6922s from Tube Depot sound very good with almost no audible noise. They are actually JJ 6922s that have received long burn-in and tight screening. Most users report high fallout from the JJs (my experience as well). So far these "Telefunkens" are working well in my system.

Incredrible, Kevin videos on YT suggest 100% perfect tubes.
Do you can ask a refund or change the tubes?

I've tried some Matsushita 12ax7's in my preamp and was not impressed.  I actually preferred the stock Shuguang 12ax7 to them.  Like all tubes though, these might not have been the same generation and definitely not the same tube type as the Matsu's you tried.

Wow incredible bad service, I have been better served in China shops.
