Buyer Beware ebay JVC RX-ES1SL

Just returned my second JVC ES1SL that I purchased from the ebay retailer click2digital.  This time it was for my money back, sans a 15% restocking fee.   Perhaps this little JVC is as good as some are claiming, I would not know.  Both units I received were defective.  The first doubled as a hotplate.  No fan noise, however.  :D  Probably because the fan did not work.  Neither did the left channel on occasion.  I exchanged that one for another "like new open box."  Funny how these like new machines come preset with a bunch of Mexican radio stations.  Makes one suspect perhaps it was a customer return (and for good reason).  This one did not get too hot.  Perhaps it may have even sounded decent if I could hear it over the fan!  Okay, that is an exaggeration, but not by much. This one also came with dead batteries in the remote, no warranty card, and the packing material missing.  Funny what passes for "like new."  Just want to warn anybody thinking of going the cheap route and buying from click2digital (real name New World Electronics).  You will probably end up with one of the ones I returned.  They did not even care what was wrong with it when I tried to explain.  Just boxed it back up and sent it back for the next lucky buyer.  It is back to tubes for me.  My experience with the JVC has taught me one thing, tubes rule!  Well at least they sound a heck of a lot better than a hotplate or an exhaust fan.

This seller on Ebay is where both ChairGuy and myself bought our JVC's. Good Seller and Good Feedback. Sorry to hear of your bad luck... :?

There seems to be a lot of duds out there. I bought my first unit from Costco and returned it due to the loud noise, which I thought was the fan, but it actually turned out to be the power supply.

I picked up a new unit from Costco and thankfully, there are no problems with the new unit.

Trial and error!

Sorry to hear there were so many problems.  For what it's worth, in a properly working unit (assuming my unit is properly working) the unit will not crank up in volume if the fan is not working.  It'll shut itself down right away.

My guess is my second bad unit also suffered from power supply noise, not fan noise.  The noise started as soon as the unit came on and stopped as soon as I turned it off.  Fans usually only come on when needed and may remain on after the amp is turned off.  It seems JVC has some serious quality control issues.  It also appears these bad units come in batches, such as the ones from Costco and the shipment to New World Electronics.  Regardless, I have had my fill of driving the Southern Cal freeways returning defective amps.  I really got it as an experiment out of curiousity, how could something so cheap be so good?  In my case the JVC failed.  I am happy for those that enjoy their little experiments but am left wondering if they are really great amps or simply great amps for $200?

The JVC fan comes on and stays on.  Sorry it didn't work out for you.  The noise the fan makes is very power dependant in my experience.  Funky DC fans...
